Neat to see that not all TV-appearances of computers in the past and not all so called "computer journalists" turn out beeing complete idiots (in todays perspective)
this one from the early ninties (aprox 1989/1990) is REALLY brilliant!

= video actually loads =
oh hey, right at the start, some spec lists.

First up, it's the age of DOS 5 and Win 3.1 ... not DOS 6 / 6.2, like we had delivered with our 486 in 1994, so that dates it a bit.

And then you have a DX2/66, 4Mb RAM, 105Mb HDD, 128k cache, no CDROM, 1Mb SVGA and 14" monitor, with DOS but not Windows... £1699. Again I think this makes your assessment of the date pretty accurate, given that we got 8Mb / 540Mb / 256k / 2x CD / 2Mb / 15" for but £300 more, when the hard drive alone was probably worth as much on the open market. Those two years were at the start of the decade-long silly season where a computer could become near worthless and hopelessly obsolete before its warranty ran out, so prices would have dropped a fair bit.

(Then a 386/40, 2Mb "special" for £819... yep)

Larger HDDs (all the way up to an unimaginable 1.1GB, though you need SCSI to break the 504Mb barrier it seems), CDROMs, EISA, larger monitors and better graphics cards are mentioned in some of the other ads but they're probably true top-of-the-tree stuff ... there's also 286 and 386 models with rather slower clocks and as little as 1Mb memory mentioned :) ... thus it could well be the age where we were still happily trucking along with an 8Mhz, 16-bit, 1Mb, hard-drive-less beast sporting Tandy-esque GFX/sound...

Oh and see if you can spot the exact point where they switch from desktops to laptops :D

Weirdly, that copy of PCW is comparitively ancient (a google trawl revealed it to be from mid '89), and gawd only knows when that Computer Buyer is from ... the video, a single article about it being closed down, and my own patchy memory of my dad buying it once or twice is about the only evidence that it ever actually existed.

OTOH, the document the chap at the start is writing - in what looks to maybe be some kind of Amiga WP program - is dated from some time in 1990... and now I'm trying to figure out what machine it was he then went on to cannibalise after talking about typewriters. It's almost certainly something rare and exotic that most collector-geeks would give their eyeteeth for, seeing as the chip he breaks open is an AMD 2901 ... a Xerox Star, a Lilith, maybe a Barco Omega or GEAC workstation. All quite advanced in terms of graphical word-processing ability even for the early 90s, let alone the late 70s thru mid 80s when they actually launched.

Aaaaah then he starts powering an LED directly from the legs of a Z80, I don't know if that's genius, evil, or both.

(Much later)
Ah, the memos and things all say 92. And the end credits are either 91 or 93, the video's too fuzzy to tell.

I do like that the "turn it off, turn it back on" advice has been the way of the world for a good 21 years now :D

Gerichtsreportage ist so ziemlich das einzige, was ich bei SPON mit Freude lese.
Gisela Friedrichsen im eigenen Haus sorgt offensichtlich für einen angenehmen Qualitätsstandard.

Oh and I have had a job where I was unable to focus or work because of stress/panic. The way my boss helped me was to get my breathing under control allowing me to get the job done.

It is a technique that some women are able to use to reduce pain during child birth. Sorry it hasn't worked for you, have you actually tried it.

O.k. folks, i got it. Somebody jumped out of a balloon, fell through different types of air and finally landed with a parachute.
And luckyly i do not suffer from Alzheimer!
So please stop repeating over and over again that somebody jumped out of a balloon. Whoever is insterested about that will certainly know this already. And those who do not will slowly get pissed of by this commercial for sweet lemonade to offer the slight chance to watch a snuff video live.
(if i want to see brave men dying i prefer events like the accident on battleship Iowa where 47 sailors perished.)

This is not a joke, it really works for "convential bulb" (non LED) light chains.
(btw: a rare Mehdi Sadaghar video nearly lacking any self inflicted injuries.)
