"Titans" - Dolomites Natural Park, 2018

From a recent Workshop 1-To-1, two beautiful peaks in a dramatic light captured from the most beautiful panoramic terrace in the Dolomites.

Lot of my works are created using the telephoto lens for highlighting interesting detail, repetition and patterns found in the landscape. Using a long focal length I can framing a small amount of the scenario in front of me to tell intimate stories, in this case the dramatic side light that hits the mountain on the right, excluding unnecessary elements from the composition. (on the right Monte Cernera and on the left the Averau)

Telephotos are often overlooked by landscape enthusiasts. This is partly due to landscape photographers being conditioned by numerous photography books and magazine articles to always think wide-angle.
Longer focal lengths can prove more effective for many scenes, though.

"Sk贸gafoss" - Iceland

ICELAND WORKSHOP - LAND OF FIRE & ICE (28 June - 6 July, Summer 2019). Join Me & Andy Mumford.
INFO: www.andrealivieriphoto.com/workshops/

Located at the foot of the impressive Eyjafj枚ll mountain range is Sk贸gafoss, a magnificent 60 meters high waterfall where, according to legend, the first Viking settler in the area hid a treasure in the cave behind the cascade.

This is also one of Iceland鈥榮 most photogenic landmarks; since the waterfall produces a lot of mist, rainbows are a common sight on sunny days. Nearby is the Sk贸gar Folk Museum, which boasts an array of interesting artefacts including an original turf farm that shows how people lived hundreds of years ago.

"Ranui church" - Dolomites Natural Park, 2018

Ranui鈥檚 Church of St. John was built in 1744 near the medieval manor known as Ranuihof. The Baroque jewel is gracefully set against the majestic mountain scenery, with the Odle Group in the background. This view of the Odle Group from the little Ranui church is one of the beautiful long-distance views of the Dolomites.

This is a panoramic composition created stitching 9 vertical images, so the final pano-image has a huge resolution. I bracketed three exposures for each shot (just for safe), but I used only the average one; the X-T2 always shows incredible performances even though the high dynamic range of the scene with deep shadows of the forest and the really bright sky. I used the Fujinon XF50-140mm at 58mm to compress the scene; it gives the appearance that the mountain in the background has pulled in closer to the church.

"Santa Maddalena" - Dolomites Natural Park, 2018

Santa Maddalena, also known as St. Magdalena, is a picturesque medieval church sequestered in the northern mountains of Italy. The Odle Mountain Group of the Dolomites tower above the surrounding valley and provide an incredible backdrop for images.

This place shines in the autumn season, tons of colors (actually, Oct isn't that far away 馃槃). A couple of days ago I was in the Dolomite to lead a 1-To-1 workshop for a really nice guy and great photographer from Canada, and I took this photo just before the twilight. The light was beautiful, so even, blueish and soft; in this case one single exposure is more than enough to capture all the details throughout the entire landscape.

"Dyrh贸laey" - Iceland

ICELAND WORKSHOP - LAND OF FIRE & ICE (28 June - 6 July, Summer 2019). Join Me & Andy Mumford.
INFO: www.andrealivieriphoto.com/workshops/

Dyrh贸laey is a magnificent little spot with not much else around it but grand natural landscapes and it鈥檚 the most southernmost part of the Icelandic mainland. It鈥檚 one of those places in Iceland that you never really hear people talk about and is sometimes considered as off the beaten track but is definitely worth adding to your list of sights to see in Iceland.

From your position atop the promenade of Dyrh贸laey, you can enjoy staggering views over Iceland鈥檚 black sand beaches, complemented by the glittering waves of the Atlantic on one side, and distant mountainscapes to the other.

The biggest attraction on the upper plateau though is definitely the enormous lava arch (Dyrh贸laey means 鈥渄oor hole鈥), which you can get some spectacular pictures of from behind the lighthouse, the exact spot where I took this image. One important thing, the place is extremely windy to such a degree you can literally take off, be careful!

If visiting Iceland you will probably get some new cool friends as this one. When travelling around Iceland you will most definitely notice some horses on your way and probably you will see lots of them.

Here I was in the South of Iceland during the summer time, and all the landscape was completely pink and purple because the Midnight Sun. It was around 11.30 in the evening. It really is quite magical, isn't it?

It's always a good idea to stop the car at least once because they are really charming and fun to connect with and always willing to mingle. As soon as they notice you they will approach you immediately. Most of the time they are behind a closed fence so they are not totally free.
