I've had some thoughts on this whole livestreaming app battle since the murmurs started. I'm still trying to figure out a good way to use Hangouts, but it's possible to do similar stuff while leveraging the YouTube search platform. Let me know what you think: #Meerkat   #Periscope
I'm not really sure if these new live streaming apps are transformative or if they're informative and influential in terms of how the existing ones will evolve over time.

If you're told you're not getting something, it doesn't mean they aren't trying to do it anyway. Sometimes it's the only way. #freeuab   #uab   #uabfootball   #bham   #collegefootball
A look back at a 2013 University of Alabama System Board of Trustees vote (and a committee vote the day before) begins to raise questions about long-standing beliefs about the board and its treatme...

Today I presented an overview of my findings after spending the last few weeks researching several angles of this UAB athletics announcement to the Alabama chapter of PRSA. Here's the resulting slide deck. #bham   #freeuab   #UAB   #uabpresidentraywatts   #uabfootball
A presentation dissecting the announcement by UAB to discontinue football, bowling, and rifle in early December 2014 with an emphasis on the PR plan and the resulting crisis management. Presented to the Alabama chapter of the Public Relations Society of America on January 13, 2015.

The current situation involving UAB and the discontinuation of three of its athletics teams has several problems, including the lack of any possible options presented to prevent this from happening in the first place. #bham   #freeuab

The few times I've done long-distance trips, I think of how much stuff I get accomplished while on board. Not sure how much writing would happen if I did it overseas or across Canada. It'd be nice to find out though...
Could a train trip to the Mediterranean infuse the author with literary inspiration?

I first shared this post a little more than four years ago. It still rings true now as the roller coaster continues. That said, to not speak up about depression, even via an older blog post, makes it harder for others to know they aren't alone. I do still struggle though I do it with a slightly lighter load...
I've long wondered why I enjoyed my friend Anis Mojgani's poem, "Shake the Dust" as much as I do. Perhaps it's because I've found a way to apply it to my life and use it to fight what's been a long...

I had questions that aren't being asked (or aren't being considered) about what's going on at UAB; then I remembered I had a place to post them for others to start thinking about them too:
Much of the past few months have been spent looking at emotions while not necessarily asking necessary questions out loud. Here are a few that seem to be bugging Andre Natta; maybe you have some ot...

The situation involving UAB discontinuing football has been focused on, well, football. There hasn't been a lot of talk about what the founding president would've potentially thought -- until now. Taking a closer look at Joseph Volker was a wise move indeed. #uab   #freeuab   #football   #collegefootball   #ncaafootball

I've spent the last few weeks doing some quiet digging into all things UAB athletics -- and college athletics in general. The result is the foundation for a presentation that starts to look at how the mob mentality plays into getting the story right or just getting a story. In many respects, the future of #bham  hangs in the balance.
The first of what may end up being several stories about this points out some issues that need to be considered when looking at the Carr Report and the decision in its entirety.

Some folks have asked me about the changes to my Sunday routine. This may help, or -- more than likely -- it'll lead to more questions that folks don't want to ask. Oh well...
Church as community is something worth remembering -- from both sides of the equation. What makes up community (and ritual) is also good to keep in mind as we

Today I got a phone call from a good friend from college (as in was a groomsman at his wedding and I crashed at his house while doing my certification classes in DC. It wasn't expected but needed, and reminded me just how beneficial my #college #community from #SCAD still is to me.
It's weird to think of SCAD -- or any college -- as a support network, but that's what I'm realizing. I specifically realizing its uncanny ability to provide that support and assistance when you ne...

I took a lot from this article -- including how much passion drives it all in the end.
At its cafes, Blue Bottle might make one of the best iced-coffee drinks in America. But are artisan businesses doomed to fail when they try going mainstream?
