Not talking about HIV is much more likely, given the state of affairs in the 80s, to segregate people. Despite what Michael says, there are higher and lower levels of risk when asking people - not everyone who has one night stands is oblivious to that person's past. Even if they are, everyone knows that it is different to be told your partner is positive and seeing a medical report, but in the event they say they are positive you will at least be making an informed choice.
It's not only about that encounter but also about whether you'd want things to progress from there. I'm sure I wouldn't want to have anything to do with someone who wasn't honest enough to tell me about their status before having sex.

For the record, in my experience, high school is harder in England. In Portugal for example our "exams" aren't marked at the national level regularly, there's no OCR or AQA, there is only you and the teacher, he/she is the one that marks your exam and he/she knows exactly who wrote what. There's one final exam (that's the only exam we have that is sent to be marked outside of your school) at the end of 3 years of high school, which you can repeat (just as in England) once or twice, if you fail them, you take the year again, just like here.
Not to mention attending classes in a language that until then you had only been assessed in terms of your correct conjugation of the verb to be.
A lot of the arguments out there take the form of attacks on how other people perceive us, but it's important to realise that a lot (a lot) of gay men are also homophobic in a way.
They also bring up in the video stereotypes and the gender/sex compartmentalisation.I've noticed this is resisted by virtually everyone I've talked to. The majority hates "the other gay", whereas the reality is that we all conform to the stereotype in one way or another.
P.S.: Does anyone recognise the name Byron Katie? I take it she must be quite well known but this is the first time I've seen her videos.
