As I wait for my flight back to Dallas, I'm thinking about family. I count myself blessed in that for me, time with my 'official' (for lack of a better term) family is something I love. Our relationships are far from perfect, but I enjoy the company of my parents, my siblings, their spouses, and their kids.

I know that's not the case for a lot of people, sadly. But my official family has also taught me that family is more than those people we can draw lines to on a genealogy chart. I have friends closer than many of my cousins (most of them, to be honest), and nieces and nephews with no ties of blood.

So to you, my friends and more than friends, I wish you a happy holiday season. May your winter be filled with the love of family, however that family is built.

Exactly. I know it can be hard, but overlook Uncle-Fred-who-watches-FOX-News and Cousin Moon-Loop-who-is-afraid-of-contrails. They're still family. Treasure them while they are there.

Because you may not always have them. My father is in a care home because of dementia - he doesn't remember any of us. So, if you were to ask me what I would pick, one more Thanksgiving with him hale and healthy ... or a big screen tv that I had to camp overnight for and scramble about like a monkey on meth ... Dad wins.

Smith Family Pie Count 2015

Since only five of us are here this year, the count is lower than it's been for several years.

Going right to left, we have pecan, peach (both mini pies), sour cream raisin, cranberry-raspberry, and pumpkin.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Which is why this is such a small year for us. For comparison, our record is thirteen kinds, with another pumpkin pie and cheesecake for people with dietary restrictions.

So I'm in line at my local Half-Price Books with a couple of children's poetry anthologies as part of a project I'm working on with my mom.

I have an awesome family.

Barbeque from the truck that parks across the street from my apartment complex on a semi-regular basis makes me happy, too.

To my friends, this song sums up my wishes for all of you this holiday season, whatever you celebrate or don't this time of year.

Smiles for the frowners
Salutes to the uppers
Boosts for the downers
May the day be the bowl of cherriest
And to all, the Merriest!

Hope you swing during the season
Hope your days go great
Hope you find plenty of reasons the whole year long to celebrate

Sun for the mopers
A laugh for the criers
Luck for the hopers
To the strange and the ordinariest
Me to you, the Merriest!

Thoughts for the musers
A cheer for the winners
Breaks for the losers
To the beats and the debonariest
Greetings like the Merriest!

Hope there's oil under your rosevine
Hope you get that raise
Hope you hope everything goes fine
the next 300 and some odd days

Friends for the loners
A Song for the singers
Grins for the groaners
make the day the nothing can compariest
have the most, the merriest!

Sitting in PDX for the next several hours before flying home. ACNW was an excellent experience.

She smiled at the look of confusion on the knight's face, then lowered her visor before raising her blade in salute and open challenge.

So, feeling like hopping on this bandwagon tonight. Hit me, folks.

bored:

tell me what fictional character reminds you of me.

you don't need to say why.

(also feel free to do this on your own feeds.)
