This weekend, you could encounter a lot of Olympus camera owners waving their cameras around with the new firmware release. My E-M1 now has focus bracketing with AF lenses and in-camera focus stacking (alas, I don't have the requisite lenses). Lots of owners are waving their cameras at anything and everything, trying out this feature. Coincidentally, our neighbour's flowers have fully bloomed on our side of the fence (our side is the sunny side).

These flowers are quite difficult to convey - If you go in too close, you get texture but lose overall context and shape and form - and lots of blurs due to the close subject distance. If you back off too much, you just get meh inconsequential flowers.

This was a handheld shot. 45mm (equivalent to 90mm full frame). f/2.5, 1/500th sec ISO 200. Set of 9 frames, hand held in a slight breeze, auto composited in Photoshop. To me the visual conveys the essence of the flowers better than I have previously done.

What's of interest is this is the closest focus distance for my 45mm, quite close, and at f/2.5 normally, you don't get a lot of sharp things to look at because the shallow DOF blurs much. In fact, there is still a blurred petal foreground, but there's a lot in focus. Why use f/2.5 and not go f/8 or f/16? Because that would reduce the shutter speed causing motion blur or force me to use a high ISO. #OlympusInspired

G+ Web Preview Updates
As promised, we're continuing to listen and respond to feedback on the new Google+.

Today we're launching a number of updates to our Web preview including:
- Adding a 3 column stream view for very wide screens
- Adding the ability to reply to comments in context
- Removing the limit on circle streams in the menu (previously 6)
- Adding the option to view 'Posts from Circle' from the Following screen

These changes (which you can see in the image below) will be rolling out today. And look for more updates on Android, iOS, and the Web soon. Thanks~

+cobalt please - interesting point you raise - after some thinking in the shower, I can recommend to G+ the following guidelines to recommend Posts, people, Communities and Collections to me.

1. The posts maybe original work or may be re-broadcast

2. The posts should be of some interest to me in content and topic - photography etc....

3. The author of a re-broadcast post should add value by way of personal insight or additional relevance or nuance or counter argument

4. The author should not have horribly irritating or annoying aspects (rather like that relative or family member who just gets on your nerves).

Should be quite easy to program yet G+ fails.

As +Mike Elgan has noted, G+ has improved Facebook. From the days of having no challenger or competitor, Facebook has changed and added enhancements to their programming - they now have more Artificial Intelligence examining the user, they now re-broadcast interesting clips, videos, news articles specific to the user's interests and current topic of conversation. They now suggest and recommend artists, brands, events that are relevant to the user's interests.

Facebook even do a better job than Flipboard, the news aggregator

Yesterday I posted a focus bracketed and stacked shot with 9 frames on a MFT 45mm lens shot at f/2.8. A celebration of the latest tech from Olympus.

I just came across an old shot with my Kodak P880 bridge small sensor camera. Deep Dof at close distance with less tech. Still viable results

Here's hoping Australia Post is as fast as Better Batt - I submitted an order and within the same day, they sent me email confirmation of the order, then before COB, an email saying that the Australia Post parcel had been posted. Australia Post came by a couple of days later. The battery capacity is stated to be lower than the original battery - I'll use it to see the practical difference. I was actually interested in seeing the shop - it's in a suburb I am unfamiliar, with, could not see any parking or big signboard - I didn't mind the drive but would have liked to eyeball the team. In the end, I got to office and ordered online.

Been to this place (whether there have been changes to management) since before my son was born. Today, went with my son, he's adult now and was in a good mood, had my little camera so was focussing on the smiling buddha icon nestled between the empty wine and cider bottles and the waiter said "No photography". Didn't see any signs forbidding that, but Ok. Spoiled the customer experience though. Guess time moves on and I will too.
