Keep your page loading speeds under 2 seconds or Google may slow down crawling your site

That's what we heard from Google's +John Mueller in a Google Webmaster Help thread, spotted by +Barry Schwartz http://tgcafe.it/1G1GkTk.

2 seconds

Here's what he said:

We're seeing an extremely high response-time for requests made to your site (at times, over 2 seconds to fetch a single URL). This has resulted in us severely limiting the number of URLs we'll crawl from your site, and you're seeing that in Fetch as Google as well. My recommendation would be to make sure that your server is fast & responsive across the board. As our systems see a reduced response-time, they'll automatically ramp crawling back up (which gives you more room to use Fetch as Google too). http://tgcafe.it/1abclLD

Looking for great (and written for the simple folk) tutorials on how to speed up your site to share with my followers. Suggestions?

UPDATE: +John Mueller, in  a comment on this post, clarified that the “difference between server response time and page loading time” must be addressed and asked if anyone could write a post about that.

+MaAnna Stephenson did just that; you can read her post here: http://tgcafe.it/1HgCXF6
