Great read on how Chicago neighborhoods got their names.
It's often said that "Chicago is a city of neighborhoods." Where do the names for all these neighborhoods come from?

Thanks Amy. The comments are as interesting as the article. In spite of the fact that we live in the 5th most diverse city on earth, Chicago remains one of the most territorial cities I've ever seen. It's a quirky town.

Did you know that Twinkies were invented in Chicago?

AND that today the sweet treat celebrates 85 years?

Here's my recap of the #LocalGuides Chicago and all that Jazz musical history tour. Can't decide if my highlight was drinks at The Green Mill, the jerk chicken at Pearl's Place or the harmonica lesson from a Blues legend?

Oh what a night! This past Thursday Chicago #LocalGuides went on a musical history tour and stopped for some down home southern cooking. Visit g.co/localguides to join the fun!

+garland coleman This was a one night only special event, but you can always plan a #LocalGuides  meet up to show off your favorite places, or get a group together to try someplace new!

Tried Shake Shack today. It wasn't all that. I didn't get the cheeseburger I ordered (they added a portobello) plus, I thought I ordered a shake and got a dish of custard. But I did get out of the office and we snagged a window seat. Overall, not impressed and thankful I didn't wait in line.

Had a great time celebrating my friend's birthday at Masa Azul. We ordered 99% of the menu and loved that I got to try so many tacos and treats! Some favorites include the esquites, the chicken tinga tacos, and the Tacos de Aguacate - beer battered avocado tacos - amazing! Each order of tacos comes 2 per plate so its great to mix and match and share with a group. Awesome drinks too - try the gypsy and the heart of the dead.

This is kind of a hole-in-the-wall diner nestled into a small plaza on Fullerton and Lakewood. You've probably driven by a million times and never noticed it was there. I recently stopped in for lunch and had some great banana pancakes! The service was a bit slow as there was only one man working and I happened to get there in the midst of a DePaul student lunch rush but the food was fresh and tasty. It's a no frills place, but I will be back for more pancakes.

I've only been for lunch and sadly it wasn't patio weather either time. But I'll be back! Love the cashew butter sandwich and also the pot roast sandwich. Both are served with a light refreshing side salad with a great house vinaigrette.

Long lines for a very small luncheonette. My brunch was pretty good, but was it worth an hour-long wait? Not really. I enjoyed the enchiladas, the menu is more tex than brunchy and not what you'd expect to be served at a luncheonette. While the 70s aesthetic is pretty groovy, there are only 40 seats, most of which are bar stools counter style - so not great great for groups of more than 2, unless you all want to sit in a line.

One of the bday veggie burgers in the city! Obsessed with the wrightwood salad - rotisserie chicken. Goat cheese, dates - amazing combo. Decent amount of outside tables during spring and summer and have never had to wait when I've come for weeknight dinners. Good wine specials too!

Very convenient parking situation. In general Kohls is not my favorite bit I like their apt 9 leggings.
