I think acts with a lot of young fans have to be cautious about what they present. When you start taking millions of dollars from tweens, you have a responsibility to make sure the messages you're putting out there are positive in influence. The current trend in lyrics that say baby, rely on me for all of your self esteem needs (you don't know you're beautiful) etc, bother me.

I think Bo Burnham hit what makes me uncomfortable on the head in "Repeat Stuff." There is something about our tween culture that knocks girls down with impossible beauty standards in magazines so that they pay boy bands to make them feel loved. I'd love to see a top 40 pop song about a girl getting her self esteem from inside instead of from some guy telling her that he thinks she's beautiful.

But as someone who had NSync posters all over her room and who wrote Draco/Hermione fanfiction back in the day, (and ran a popular Tom Felton fan site), I can't begrudge a fangirl for CARING about something. It's refreshing in a world that can sometimes be so nihilistic.

On Monday, June 8, I called Lovelady plumbing because we needed a plumber to come out and snake the drain from our AC unit to the outdoor pipe. I spoke to the manager on the phone about exactly what I needed done and she quoted me a price. I scheduled an appointment for the next day. Two plumbers came out, climbed into my attic, blew in the pipe, told me they didn't have the tool for the job, said the pipe was clear, charged me $95, and left. They also gave me some line about how an AC unit isn't supposed to produce condensation, which 6th grade science would tell you is wrong: when you take humid, hot air and cool it, water must come out. The next day we realized the AC had kicked off again and went up to find the pan full and the pipe not draining. My husband called the main number to complain and left his phone number, requesting a phone call, but the plumber called me back on my number. My husband spent ten minutes talking to the plumber, who insisted that the pipe was unclogged (despite the fact that we could see it was clogged and not draining). The plumber was pushy, interruptive, and in the end we wasted $95 to have two guys look around our attic and give us an uninformed opinion on our AC unit. Had the woman on the phone just told me they couldn't do it, I would have saved nearly $100. They came out knowing what I expected them to do, they charged me, and they did nothing.

I really love this place, even if it's not perfect. It's fast food, so the expectation can't be too high. They have friendly employees (at least the ones who have been there when I've gone in) and good subs. Their prices are comparable to subway but the quality of the meat seems much better. Their chicken salad is too pickly, but that's my only critique of the food. They have 8" (compare to Subway's 6") and 12" subs, a Coke machine that lets you add flavorings, and every meal comes with a pretty good pickle. I prefer it to Subway, and it is a quick stop if I'm rushing to pick up dinner after a late night at the school.

My husband and I love to visit Mizu. I am a sushi fiend and get the craving to devour some sushi at least once a month. The food is delicious, and there are menu options for sushi eaters and less adventurous diners who just want fried rice and steak. The creamy ginger dressing on the salads is A-mazing. I have searched for a similar dressing, but I just can't find one. I have eaten at the bar, the hibachi, and in dining and all three have been an enjoyable experience. The place is classy and the waiters are effective without being intrusive. Mizu is my favorite date-night stop.
