I think every time I've met you it has been at Dragon*Con. My two favorite cons (although haven't been to either in years since child arrival) are Balticon in Baltimore and HeroesCon in Charlotte.
Balticon originally came onto my radar because it was next to D*C the only biggish SF con with an entire podcasting/new media track. I went a few times and immediately felt plugged into the whole scene. Now I miss it each year it happens and I'm not there. Plus, I love to listen to area locals with that accent. It's like being in The Wire or a John Waters movie.
HeroesCon I love because it is pure comics. Lots of cosplay, lots of creators, aisle after aisle of boxes full of cheap old comics. It is like heaven to me, each and every time I go (and the first time was in 1985.) No movie studios, no TV celebrities, just comics people wall to wall.
