The Problem with Grains and Legumes

Prominently situated at the base of the food pyramid, grains are promoted as the fiber-rich foundation of a healthy diet. But are grains really a necessary part of your diet, or can they in fact be harmful?

If you have an autoimmune disease, you may already be aware of the fact that gluten, the protein in wheat that gives bread its sticky, doughy texture, is an inflammatory substance. However, wheat is not unique. Many of the plants that we consume contain similar proteins that will increase inflammation in your body and contribute to a leaky gut.

New Yorkers - BE INSPIRED! Those hoping to become organic farmers in New York can take advantage of a new state program intended to support agriculture. The Beginning Farmers Fund will provide new farmers with grants of up to $50,000. Organic farmers and those who plan to grow specialty crops will be given priority for the grants. -Wall Street Journal

Lemon Herb Salmon Recipe:

2 sockeye salmon filets
Juice of a small lemon + 2 slices
1 Tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
1 Tbsp dried sage
1 Tbsp fresh thyme
1 Tbsp fresh basil, chopped
1 Tbsp coconut oil
Sea salt and cracked pepper to taste
1 Tbsp water

Heat coconut oil in skillet over medium-high heat. Place salmon skin side down in skillet. Brush top of salmon with coconut oil, squeeze lemon juice over top, sprinkle with herbs, salt, pepper and place a lemon slice over each filet. Cook the salmon for 2 to 3 minutes, carefully lifting the salmon with spatula to loosen it from the pan.

Reduce heat to medium, add 1 tablespoon of water and cover. Cook 3-4 more minutes until finished.

Serve warm or cold and enjoy!

Have you heard? Walmart is going to start supplying organ foods at a discounted price! I think this is awesome on their part! The biggest complaint I hear about organic is that it's too expensive and this makes it a bit more accessible. Hopefully people who shop there will start choosing to buy organic to feed their families!
