This morning we are proud to launch Santa Forgot, our thought-provoking festive campaign that imagines a world where the magic of Christmas is lost because Santa is living with the effects of dementia. But one determined little girl believes something can be done.

Watch the animation, voiced by Stephen Fry, and believe in the power of research this Christmas - www.alzheimersresearchuk.org

There are reports in tonight’s news of early clinical trial findings suggesting that a potential new drug, aducanumab, can remove the build-up of amyloid in the brain and slow decline in memory and thinking skills in people with mild Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers are now building on this discovery with a larger and more comprehensive clinical trial, which is currently recruiting volunteers in the UK. Read our blog to find out more about aducanumab and how you can get involved in research - dementiablog.org/aducanumab

We’ve launched A Walk Through Dementia, an immersive virtual reality insight into dementia, available free for Android devices from the Google Play Store now.
The innovative app, which is compatible with the Google Cardboard headset, is launching at a special three day exhibition at St Pancras International Station in London. Featuring the voice of Dame Harriet Walter, and with an introduction from Jon Snow, A Walk Through Dementia is designed to help the public think beyond memory loss to gain a fully immersive insight into the varied symptoms people with dementia can experience in everyday life.

Developed with the kind help of people living with dementia, the app illustrates how in powerful detail how the most everyday task of popping to the supermarket and making a cup of tea can become a challenge for someone with dementia.

Visit the site to find out more, to get your cardboard headset and to take A Walk Through Dementia. http://www.awalkthroughdementia.org/

15-year-old Harry Gardner has released a heart-breaking song called Not Alone for Alzheimer’s Research UK, in honour of his nan who is living with dementia.

“I was aware that my nan had Alzheimer's but I wasn't aware of how severe the condition would be, as I thought it would only be a short-term memory loss.

"I visited their house with my mum and we had lunch there but my nan was not downstairs as normal. She was lying in a dark room, with no expression on her face whatsoever, with her eyes closed. I had never seen my nan like that before and it really hit me hard. I left the room so shocked."

The music video can be watched at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeVs6q5bC_s and if you’d like to donate to Alzheimer’s Research UK through Harry’s fundraising page go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/HarryGardnerMusic. You can download the song on Itunes for 99p - http://goo.gl/QOyIC4 or on Amazon Music - https://goo.gl/AMjqNU.

Well done Harry, your nan would be very proud of you.
