AWP attendees: come to our panel on writing nonfiction that is both literary and socially relevant
ON THE PANEL:
· Marianne Leone, author of Jesse: A Mother's Story
· Michael Patrick MacDonald, author of All Souls and Easter Rising
· David Chura, author of I Don't Wish Nobody to Have a Life Like Mine
· Courtney Martin, author of Do It Anyway
· Helene Atwan, director of Beacon Press

ABOUT THE PANEL
This panel explores the craft of writing nonfiction that is both literary and socially relevant. Panelists include writers who, while seeking to make significant contributions to the national conversation on the issues they are writing about, are first and foremost writers of literary nonfiction. Writers and editors on the panel discuss ways to balance the political goals of the activist with the aesthetic imperatives of literary writing and the financial demands of trade publishing.

You must be registered for AWP 2013 to attend.

Happy birthday, Howard Zinn.
Today marks the 90th birthday of historian, playwright, and activist Howard Zinn (1922-2010). A former bombardier in WWII, Zinn became active in the civil rights movement while teaching at Spelman. After being fired for supporting student protestors, he became a professor at Boston University, where he taught until his retirement in 1988. He is the author of many books, including his landmark work, A People’s History of the United States (http://goo.gl/sZVRh), and his memoir, You Can’t be Neutral on a Moving Train (http://goo.gl/KznKI).
