AUSD Earns National Award for School, Family and Community Partnerships.

Alvord Unified School District earned a 2015 Partnership District Award from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University.  Alvord Unified School District was recognized for making excellent progress in developing its leadership on partnerships and for guiding schools to develop goal-linked programs of family and community engagement.
Alvord Unified School District, a member of NNPS, provided detailed descriptions of specific strategies for helping schools improve their partnership programs to attain school improvement goals and to increase student success in school.  NNPS looks for evidence of key leadership components including teamwork, clear goals, well-designed and well-implemented plans, direct facilitation of schools, evaluation of progress, and network connections.
“Alvord Unified School District is applying research-based approaches to help schools become welcoming places that engage parents and the community in ways that improve student attendance, attitudes, behavior, achievement, health, graduation rates, and postsecondary plans,” said Dr. Joyce L. Epstein, Director of NNPS.
Since his arrival at Alvord Unified School District in 2013, Superintendent Sid Salazar has been actively engaged with students, parents, community, and local leaders in a collective effort to first develop and now deliver on a new strategic plan where school, family, and community partnerships play a pivotal role.
Alvord Unified School District will continue to strengthen its leadership and programs of school, family, and community partnerships to help more students succeed at high levels.  For more information about Alvord Unified School District’s partnership program, contact Kathleen Kennedy at or (951) 509-5163.Read about NNPS at

A group of instructors from China visit Norte Vista as part of their program for the UCSD Global Leadership Institute. This is the 4th year that they have chosen to visit our school. The group was extremely grateful for the hospitality and left many compliments for the instruction they saw and the conversations they had while on campus.
