Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline meant for the wholesome development of a person. And in India, it is also a practical philosophical discipline.

The origins of Yoga is supposed to date back to the traditions of the earliest civilizations of the Indian subcontinent.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali forms the core of the Yoga practice. Yoga also finds widespread mention in the Bhagavad Gita and other art forms of ancient India.

Today, Yoga has spread across the world mainly as a physical and mental stress relieving practice and is being taught worldwide.
The UN has declared  June 21 as 'International Day of Yoga'.
