First ever telly soap on Maa Sarada's life
Kolkata, Feb 14 (PTI) In the first such work on the life of Maa Sarada, who is also reverentially called as 'Sri Ma' by followers of the Ramakrishna Monastic order, a television soap will now trace her life and work.

"We have been guided by books by popular writer Sanjib Chattopadhyay, who is known for his research on Maa Sarada and Thakur's (Ramakrishna Paramahansa) lives and also offering his guidance to us. We are consutlting books by Swami Vivekananda and Swami Gambhirananda Maharaj," Director of Jagat Janani Maa Sarada Susanta Bose told PTI here.

"The Belur Math authorities have positively responded and recommended we follow Gambhirananda Maharaj's writings and this we are doing as advised by Sanjib Chattopadhyay, whose research-based writings on Sri Ma, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda in different publications have been appreciated by the Ramakrishna Monastic Order monks and scholars," Susanta said.

Aware that there could be criticism from section of Bengalees who are touchy about their icons like Ramakrishna and Sri Ma,Susanta said, If there are constructive criticisms we will bow our head and rectify. But there had been no half-hearted effort on our part. I have told my actors to adhere to a routine of discipline during the entire period of shoot. A life with no distraction and a reverential life.

Young TV actor Arpita Mondal, who will be essaying the role of Maa Sarada, said I have been able to eliminate the restiveness and distraction from mind by sitting solitary in a dark room for hours eery day, reading relevant books by monks and Sanjib Chattopadhyay and doing meditation every day and whenever I wear the typical white cotton saree and let my hair loose like her, I feel I have shifted to that trance ( Bhab ) through my words and behaviour, even off camera. I feel like divinely blessed."

In the course of a letter he wrote from America to a brother disciple, the Swami said, "You have not yet realized how precious Mother is. People will not understand her now, but they will, gradually. Brother, there will be no salvation of the world without the help of the Divine Power… [Swami Vivekananda regarded all women as manifestations of Shakti, or the Divine Power, and Holy Mother as Her special manifestation.]  Why is it that our country is the weakest and most backward of all countries?  Because Shakti is held in dishonor here [Referring to the degraded condition of Indian womanhood].  Mother has been born to revive this wonderful Shakti here…  Without the grace of Shakti nothing will be accomplished…  What do I find in America and Europe?  The worship of Shakti, the worship of Power.  Yet they worship Her ignorantly, through sense gratification.  Imagine then what a lot of good they will achieve when they worship Her with purity, look upon Her as their Mother!  I am coming to understand things every day; my insight is opening out more and more…  Let Ramakrishna disappear, that does not frighten me.  But it will be a calamity if people forget Mother… Don't be angry with me.  None of you has understood Mother.  Her grace upon me is one hundred thousand times greater than that of the Master…  About Mother I am a little fanatic.  I can do anything if she gives the order.  I shall give a sigh of relief when you purchase a piece of land and install this living Durga there…  Brother, when I think of Mother, I say to myself: 'Who is this Ramakrishna?  I say this because of my fanaticism. Whether Ramakrishna was God or man – you may say whatever you like. But, brother, shame upon him who is not devoted to Mother!'

Sai Baba replied, “O, some service he will get. But right now he should serve me and he will get happiness in life. His plates will always be full and his needs will be satisfied as long as he lives. If he always seek my protection with full faith in me, his troubles will end.

The heart of the devotee, free from desires, is like a dry match which ignites directly when it is struck, the slightest mention of the name of God kindling the fire of love in his heart. But the mind of the worldly, soaked in lust and greed, is like a damp match which will not light, however often you may strike it. Similarly, the worldly-minded man can never be fired with enthusiasm, though God be preached to him innumerable times.

The work of the Guru is done in a few minutes. By a few simple words the Guru gives a new turn to the life - just as when a man is riding a bicycle, some one sees that the road he is taking will lead to danger, so he turns him round and starts him in another direction. The man keeps on pedalling as before and the bicycle keeps on moving, but now the man is moving away from danger instead of toward it. Similarly, the Guru sees that the direction you have taken is dangerous, so he turns you round. All your activities may go on as before, you may keep on pedalling just the same, but now you are riding in a safe direction. The Guru's work is to give the turn in the right direction.

As I stood up to go, he asked: "Can you wrestle? Come, let me see how well you wrestle!" With these words he stood up, ready to grapple with me. I was surprised at this challenge. I thought to myself, "What kind of holy man is this?" But I replied, "Yes, of course I can wrestle."

Sri Ramakrishna came closer, smiling. He caught hold of my arms and began to shove me, but I was a strong, muscular young man and I pushed him back to the wall. He was still smiling and holding me with a strong grip. Gradually I felt a sort of electric current coming out of his hands and entering into me. That touch made me completely helpless. I lost all my physical strength. I went into ecstasy*, and the hair of my body stood on end. Releasing me, the Master said with a smile, "Well, you are the winner." With those words, he sat down on his cot again. I was speechless. Wave after wave of bliss engulfed my whole being. I was pondering the fact that the Master had not won physically but his spiritual power had completely subdued me. Some time passed. Then the Master got up from his seat. Patting me gently on the back, he said: "Come here often. It is not enough to come once." Then he offered me some sweets as prasad, and I returned to Calcutta. For days the spell of that intoxicating joy lingered, and I realized that he had transmitted spiritual power to me.
