For all my high school friends who braved the frigid weather of Peru NY all those years, and for all my yankee friends and relatives currently living in frigid weather, you'll get a kick out of this memo we received today at school:

From: "McNeal, Marcie/Office of Communications" <>
Date: January 6, 2014 at 10:29:34 AM CST
Subject: MEMO:  Tuesday weather decision

Mobile County Public Schools will delay the start of school by two hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday, due to record-breaking temperatures caused by an Arctic blast.

Buses will run their regular routes, and students will be picked up at their normal stops exactly two hours later than usual.

All school system employees will report to work at their regular time.

“We are delaying school by two hours because we don’t want students out waiting for their buses in the cold,” said Mobile County Public Schools Superintendent Martha Peek.

Students are asked to dress appropriately and to wear winter coats, even if they do not comply with the school’s dress code.

Meanwhile, school employees are working today to winterize the buildings, including the pipes. Heaters will run today and extra portable heating units will be on hand.

Students are returning to class Tuesday from winter break. Teachers and other school employees returned last week.
