Man, I love morning radio. Being able to "see" that this was real is interesting, and makes me wonder how many of the stunts I heard in the past which I knew just had to be fakes...might have actually happened.

Would you create one showing how you built the actual layout? You may have a better way than how I have been doing mine.

Do you have the Speech/Sound Pak? If I recall, this games makes extensive use of it for sound effects and such.

That is very impressive. I do not think I could ever remember that many patterns. (I'm down to just two main ones I use on every level after the first two, though one pattern has a variation so I guess it's technically three patterns.)

I assume the top line is your edit to show what level you are on? I don't recall the arcade game displaying like that.

Yes, I edited the header display.

I use a few of these patterns regularly, as they kill quicker than any high speed pattern. Most of them are just a bit of fun, though, especially the ones which have zero room for error

That's great - when someone introduced me to this frustrating game, I immediately thought about how one might be able to make an Arduino play it better than I could.

It reminds me of a "choose your own adventure" book. I will have to see if I still have some of the adventures I worked on somewhere. Back then, I was as working one that would have ran on MC10 or CoCo, so no use of extended basic which, either. Always a challenge!

We use Arduinos in various "haunted house" attractions. This year, we want to use one on a hayrack ride, and as the trailer goes through different scenes, we want to trigger things. Instead of just having the operator press buttons, I was thinking of having an IR receiver on the trailer, and having emitters throughout the path that it could read. We just need to figure out some cheap method of sending unique IR signals (so the trailer knows which scene it is, in case the route has to change).

Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? We will be able to have the trailer pass within 10 feet or so of a post for whatever kind of transmitter we choose.

Anyone know about the iBeacon type tech? It would just take a BL shield and the transmitters.... But I am guessing the beacons are probably expensive right now?

2013: For some reason, Google deems this review inapprorpiate and has blocked it. Why? (Because it's about a town called XXXXXXX, perhaps? Look it up on Google Maps, Google.) Habenero salsa? Si! During the July 16th, 2013 grand opening of the new Iowa Distilling, they had various snacks including chips and some salsa I had never heard of. I was wondering if it was Iowa based and I was surprised to find the label reading "XXXXXXX, Iowa." Now THAT's a local product. Being a native of Texas, I have not been too impressed with what passes for salsa in Iowa, but this stuff was great. The habenero was being used more for taste than spice (though perhaps it would still be too hot for someone not raised with hot stuff), and the taste was great. I look forward to finding where I can buy the product.

2013: For some reason, Google deems this review inapprorpiate and has blocked it. Why? (Because it's about a town called XXXXXXX, perhaps? Look it up on Google Maps, Google.) Well, now I can cross “try Iowa corn moonshine” off my bucket list. During the big Tuesday bike ride from Des Moines to the XXXXXXX Tap, I saw a wooden sign near the bike path promoting this place. I thought it was some brewery that had its products at the Tap that evening, but when I asked what it was, they directed me across the street. Iowa Distilling has a nice corner building location with a classy sign out front. It was nicely decorated inside. They were offering samples of three types of their products. (My favorite was the cinnamon Prairie Fire.) They also have a rum coming out in August (2013), too. They also sold t-shirts, shot glasses and mason jar style drinking glasses. (Credit cards accepted.) In addition to samplings, they had their distillery room open and were giving tours and explaining the process of turning corn in to moonshine. It was a very pleasant surprise, and I hope they do well. They seem to have a passion for this new business (licensed in 2012, startup in early 2013, and grand opening on July 16th, 2013).

What a flashback! An arcade full of classic games, as well as three Skee Ball games that they say were at the old Riverview Park. The games take quarters or tokens, and they have a full bar with arcade-themed specialty drinks. Some nights they offer 2-for-1 tokens, and they have been doing special nights where the first 100 get ten free tokens. On some nights, you get a token (more more) with a drink purchase. There are also a few home console game machines hooked up to large projection screens for free play, as well as huge Jenga and Connect Four. It's just like the arcades I remember when I was a teenager, except there's booze and, oddly, tons of wonen. If various games hadn't eaten my quarters so many times, I'd give them five stars easily.

2013: For some reason, Google deems this review inapprorpiate and has blocked it. Why? Nothing special. A hotel that looks like it was much nicer once, but is now worn down. We stayed there during December 2006 thanks to a combo deal on Travelocity (flights and hotel). I think it added maybe $150 to our airline tickets for 9 days! It's hard to argue with that kind of pricing. Fixtures are worn, carpet old, etc. but I didn't see any bugs and everything worked. The only annoyance was our room key got reset three times during the trip requiring a walk back to the front lobby after a long day theme parking. People there were very nice and helpful. Parking was right outside the door, which is a big plus. I could open the door, walk a few steps to the car, then be on Disney property within minutes. An Arby's, open late, is next door. I have a few pics of the room on my DisneyFans dot com site in the WDW Misc2006 gallery if you want to check it out. I've stayed in worse Motel 6 and Super 8s, but it's by far no "nice" hotel. Just old and worn.

2013: For some reason, Google deems this review inapprorpiate and has blocked it. Why? (Because it's about a town called XXXXXXX, perhaps? Look it up on Google Maps, Google.) A neat bicycling destination. About two years ago, a coworker, after finding out I had started riding my bike again, asked me if I'd ever done the "XXXXXXX run" for steak night. At the time, the only thing I knew about XXXXXXX was that it had an exit sign that inevitably resulted in worn out jokes being made. I finally made the "XXXXXXX run" with a coworker (starting out near Orlondo's in Des Moines) and got to visit the Tap. I was surprised to see all the other bikes parked outside. This little place is known for service Moscow Mules (and possibly was likely one of the first in Iowa to start doing this). If you are unfamiliar with this ginger beer drink, you will recognize them easily by looking for the metal (brass) mugs that they serve them in. I have now made a few more rides out there, including a recent one on "Tacopacolypse Tuesday" where a food tent is set up service fusion tacos. These nights are crazy, with hundreds passing through, and mobs at the bar and in line to get these tacos. There is also a "cook your own steak" night. The folks running the place and working at it all seemed friendly, as you might expect from a small town, and the locals seem to handle the weekly bicycle invasions pretty well. It's certainly a "to do" destination for folks exploring the bike trails around Des Moines... (And now, across the street is the new Iowa Distilling which makes corn moonshine.) And if you are amused by worn out jokes, you can buy their "I Love XXXXXXX" T-shirts... ;-)

2013: Location closed. What a pleasant find in Marshalltown. The place is very nicely decorated in a classy "reminds me of my grandparent's house" kind of way (as opposed to trendy, artsy nose-ring kind of places, which is what I usually expect). The signage was professional, and it looked could be a franchise. The drink assortment was vast (they have both Coke and Pepsi products, for example), with many coffee types and speciality drinks. They make most of their pastries there, and also have a wide range of salads, sandwiches and some breakfast items (the breakfast biscuit was big, and very reasonably priced). Very friendly folks, too.

Although I don't have one any more, their bottomless mug club is the best value in town. One price gives you coffee, tea, sodas and other beverages all year long at any Bruegger's location. This saves a ton! And Bruegger's has some of the best salads anywhere, though I always have a custom one made so I get exactly what I like. Friendly folks, and there's a Geocache hidden next door...
