That headline is a bit misleading. This supports the move to new features with Skype for Windows phone 10. However, for the people still using 8.1 it'll be a pain after 2017.

No Earth-Shattering Info Leaks,
But Still a Fun Read...

Direct Reddit link to the Team Android AMA:
https://www.reddit.com/r/androiddev/comments/4tm8i6/were_on_the_android_engineering_team_and_built/

Members of the Android engineering team (11 members, in total) took to reddit this morning to offer up answers to many questions that flooded in from the community. While the majority of questions dove into areas of subject we typically don’t cover here, a few of the questions and the team’s answers gave good insight …

+Allen Cross Thanks for this link; as you say it's an interesting read. Given limited time and resources, it highlights the choice the engineers face between fixing bugs and developing new features. And the problem with the bugs is that more are reported than can be hunted down and fixed.

I just drove to the local cafe to get a couple of take away coffees. Round trip of about 3km in a quiet suburb and I counted 9 people who I would bet were playing Pokemon go.

I get that a lot of you like thick plastic brick phones like last year’s Moto G. As long as they’re cheap and decently fast, you can forgive their girth and painfully inexpensive finishings. Good for you. But I am not one of you. I firmly believe that cheap does not have to mean chunky monkey aesthetics. Cheap can be slim, too. Which means I want to believe in the Moto G4.

Recently stumbled across this guy's channel. Lots of fun stuff to watch, including a growing list of vintage-y Hi-Fi gear videos. Binge-watched at least 12 of 'em, that first evening. LOL

In particular, I like his attitude -- both toward collecting old-timey audio gear (brushed aluminum FTW!) and toward trollish commenters. As he explains on his main ('Featured') YouTube page...

This is Techmoan
Techmoan is a one-man, part-time, half-baked channel made by a middle aged chap in the UK.
It usually works like this - I hunt out interesting gadgets on ebay - I make a video about these. People complain about various aspects of the video that are completely irrelevant. I ignore the comments and make another video.
If this sound like fun - then subscribe

(Non-)Shattering News from Corning...
.
It’s an unfortunate irony that the device we now rely on so heavily is also so incredibly fragile. Your smartphone’s big, beautiful touchscreen is an accident waiting to happen, but Corning continues its magnanimous to improve the survival rate of your hardware, and its latest creation, Gorilla Glass 5, should help your phone survive even nastier tumbles.

On a technical note this is very interesting, but why?! If I buy a Chromebook I can't see why I would want to run Windows applications on it. For one thing, Chromebooks are relatively low powered because ChromeOS doesn't need high specs to run well. As soon as you start running Windows apps on it I would imagine the performance would drop through the floor.

We recently cleared out of a long-term storage spot (originally rented by a relative) in the 'climate controlled' building. Overall, we found the place just fine -- clean, secure and reasonably well-lit. Really, it's a perfectly suitable spot to store your spare stuff with few or no worries. Just one complaint: cost. I grant you, their prices may be competitive for the area; let's face it, life in this area (Lambertville, Mt. Airy, etc.) is rather pricey. But with just a bit of driving, you can easily save 20% or more over the rates charged, here. So unless you live right in town and find that you must have quick access to your storage on a regular basis, I suggest that you do a bit of shopping around.

On top of being the cleanest McDonald's for many miles around, this one also boasts one of the most modern, 'upscale' interiors. The management here runs a very tight ship -- no idle chatter in the back (I got the sense it's not a 'fun' place to work), swivel seats welded so as to permanently face forward (more 'fun' points lost) and a parking lot so remarkably tidy it is downright weird. On the day of my last visit their new video-display menus were being installed, further enhancing the contemporary vibe. And I grant them extra credit for having several large beds of fresh flower plantings, every spring. Top scores, all-round.
