Readit hits 2.0, now faster, fewer bugs, and still VERY Amoled-friendly http://ow.ly/2X8fLE
Back in the day(!) we had Compuserve and (in the UK) CIX, dial-up, mainly text-based conferencing systems where you can topics on everything under the sun. Then the Internet happened and conferencing got a bit lost for a while, split across a million different sites and forums. But 'reddit' has been emerging over the last decade as the natural successor to CIX et al, with massive popularity among those who prize content over glamour. And Windows ...

ESPN gets a rewritten app for Windows Phone - Even casual non-Americans will recognise the ESPN name, being the premier USA sports network - and apparently its Windows Phone app just got a bit rewrite and freshen up. Interestingly, it's fully available across the rest of the world, or at least as fully as it works in the first place - one of the video feeds seemed to be a non-starter. http://ow.ly/2X5VtK

New @361podcast episode: “Luxury podcasting” Can high-end brands ‘do tech’? Can tech firms ‘price to impress’? - http://361podcast.com/episodes/s09e08-luxury-podcasting
This week the team are hugely under-qualified to discuss luxury and fashion technology (but try to anyway). With the arrival of the Apple Watch Edition, the subject of consumer technology 'priced to impress' has been re-ignited... some time after Vertu pioneered this segment.

The TechTruck rolls on, spreading the Windows gospel... - It's a fair cop, I have an interest in expanding and innovative vehicles, but it did mean that this linked and illustrated story that also brought in Windows and Windows Phone was hard to resist. It's a shame that the Microsoft TechTruck is currently in Germany, as I'd be all over it if it came anywhere near me. Seriously, it's a cool vehicle and concept, maybe this or a few sister vehicles might make it to the U... http://ow.ly/2X1CvR

Microsoft Health app now available in the UK in advance of Band availability http://ow.ly/2WOY4O
Launched back in October 2014 was Microsoft Health, a comprehensive cross-platform initiative, with a companion app on Windows Phone arriving in due course and with the Microsoft Band accessory available only in the USA at first. The rollout has been continuing and, in advance of the Band hitting UK stores in a couple of weeks, we now have a fully compatible version of the Microsoft Health application for Windows Phone available in the UK.

Telescope brings Twitter Periscope to Windows Phone, video streaming quirkiness http://ow.ly/2WLEh7
There's nothing new under the sun, instant video streaming/broadcasting applications have been around now for a decade, ever since the days of Symbian S60, but arguably cellular bandwidth is only just now getting to the point where the mass market can both broadcast and receive video streams in decent quality. Twitter's recent Periscope launch, tying video broadcasting into your Twitter network is a good example of the latest attempt in this sphe...

AAWP Insight #134: Imaging in-depth (HTC M9 and Lumia 930) - In AAWP Insight #134, hosted by Steve and Rafe, the discussion nearly all revolves around imaging. Using Steve's HTC M9 and Lumia 930 camera comparison as a starting point, we cover a number of imaging related topics, including flagship performance, the importance of software, and how much the megapixel count matters. We also cover a number of imaging-related app updates (Vine and Lumia Storyteller), and look ... http://ow.ly/2X8fLF

How to: ditch Photos and use Lumia Storyteller instead... - The apparent duplication in having both Windows Phone 'Photos' and 'Lumia Storyteller' on most Lumias is a little confusing, but a little investigation reveals that the latter can on the whole be used as a replacement for the former, and with significant extra features and tie-ins. It doesn't make much difference for the everyday Lumia, but for the Lumia Camera 5-compatible smartphones, it's very worthwhile mak... http://ow.ly/2X52FH

Wallet power banks - don't believe every spec you read - As something of a fan of the idea of 'wallet' power banks, emergency charging sources, I took a quick look at a couple of new options online. Review: Flickr Central - So there I was, responding to a reader request to do a round-up of Flickr apps for Windows Phone. And then it dawned on me that a) there are really only two (thus making it not so much a round-up as a comparison!) and b) we'd never covered Flickr Central on AAWP before. So, in advance of an upcoming head to head comparison, let's start with a full review of this free application. The summary? it works very well indeed, perhaps only trailing the ... http://ow.ly/2WZUp8

AAWP Insight #133: Device pricing, HTC M9 and Lumia 930 - In AAWP Insight #133, hosted by Steve and Rafe, we start by highlighting a few UK deals for Lumia smartphones, which leads to a discussion of pricing and value for smartphones in general. Our main topic of conversation revolves around a comparison between the Lumia 930 and the HTC One M9, but we also find time to cover a few April-1st-related news topics (including Microsoft's latest 'mobile operating system') an... http://ow.ly/2WP7Gn

MX Player arrives for real on Windows Phone - After a number of abortive, hardly working beta versions on Windows Phone, MX Player, one of the big name video players in the Android world, has arrived at last and seems to work very well. It played all my test videos perfectly and with a surprising number of settings and options. See below for screens and link. http://ow.ly/2WLKTx
