Invisalign: A Look at Treatable Cases: Are you hoping to achieve a straighter, healthier, and more attractive smile? If so, then consider speaking with your dentist in Everett, WA about Invisalign. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign uses clear, removable aligners to straighten teeth and, like traditional braces, can address a wide range of dental issues. The following are types of dental occlusions that can be fixed through treatment with Invisalign: Gapped Teeth Invisalign’s ability to improve the look of gapped teeth is just one of the reasons why this treatment is so popular in cosmetic dentistry. Gaps and spacing issues typically occur when the jawbone continues to grow beyond the proper size, and this problem can increase a person’s risk of gum disease, if not addressed. Crowding When there isn’t enough room in the jaw for all of a person’s teeth, the result is crowding. This problem can lead to severely crooked teeth if left untreated, as well as an increased risk of plaque accumulation, tooth decay, and gum disease. Open Bite If, when biting down, some of a person’s teeth do not make contact with the opposing teeth, this is what’s known as an open bite. This type of occlusion can cause jaw pain or lead to TMJ. Overbite The upper teeth should extend a bit over the lower teeth, but an overbite occurs when they extend too much. This problem is usually the result of genetics, an overdevelopment of bone, or poor oral habits, and it can lead to irritation of and problems with the gums. Underbite Conversely, an underbite occurs when the lower teeth extend farther out than the upper teeth do. Underbites can prevent normal dental function and lead to jaw problems and tooth wear. Crossbite When both the upper and lower jaws are misaligned, this results in a crossbite. This type of dental occlusion causes at least 1 of the upper teeth to rest on the inner surface of the lower teeth when the person bites down, and it can promote gum disease and premature wear of the teeth.
