5 x F x MY MIDNIGHT HEART  -- see the artist's thoughts below

RAMONA LISA x BACKWARDS AND UPWARDS
I think this is an amazing and incredibly underrated record. We already all know Caroline is an incredibly talented, unique, and beautiful human being, etc. etc. but this record is really just her writing music alone on a tour bus and in airports with zero inhibitions and expectations. I feel like that’s a side of her we hadn’t seen before. Plus, the music is dope. Like walking around in someone else’s dream. Extremely specific as far as the lyrics and sonic palate, but strangely relatable. It has a dark, ethereal “Alice in Wonderland” mood about it. It’s bizarrely beautiful in its experimentation and completely original in its sound. It’s one of those records that sounds throwback because it’s so lo-fi, but will continue to sound “modern” and “new” for years after this because of those very same reasons. Basically I just want to say that I. Love. This. Record.

BJORK x CHARLENE
I can’t write about music without writing about Bjork. I still remember when I heard “Hidden Place” for the first time when I was 14 and I was just like “WHHHHAAAAAAT?!” I had never heard anything like what she was creating. I was huge into Fiona Apple, and Tori Amos then, who I still love and appreciate, but Bjork wasn’t just writing songs, she was building these universes with her voice, poetry, and well-curated synthetic and organic sounds. I heard that choir, those strings, these pulsing synth beats, and her voice—gawd—that voice, and it literally changed my life. I’ve never been able to think about music in the same way again. Every time I write a new song, I think about Bjork and that moment. I owe so much to her and her vision.

KELELA x THE HIGH
I love Kelela because she curates her collaborations really, really well. She works with all these different producers and still maintains her “sound”. It’s really difficult to keep that up when you’re songs pass through so many hands... Producers, engineers, etc. She writes really simple lyrics that become multi-faceted through her vocal phrasing and tone. Every time she sings a line, she sings it completely as herself. Its unmistakably Kelela. I love that. You have to be super secure in who you are as an artist to do that. Also, the chords in the song have a Robert Glasper quality to them and that is always only a good thing.

ARCA x &&&&&
I don’t know if this really is following the 5 song theme for this post but, I just had to include it—“mix” or not. “&&&&&” makes me feel feelings I wasn’t even sure I had and can’t catalogue yet. I feel like I’m a superhero driving a flying car through slow motion explosions in the future when I listen to this music. WTF is that even called?? Arca has the power to build sonic worlds with his music. It’s transformative. It transports you to whatever world he’s writing about. To me that’s what music is all about. Taking people you’ve never met and successfully being able to place them inside something they’ve never seen or heard before. To me that’s success. That’s when you’ve “made it”.

SAMPHA x INDECISION
I want to be friends with Sampha. No one else is writing songs and producing their tracks in as honest a way as he is. His lyrics are deeply thoughtful, introspective, and just—raw. Like he writes music just because he loves writing music. That shouldn’t be a mind-blowing thing, but it is at the moment. There aren’t many out there who are doing that right now. Most of us can’t even help it honestly. Wanting to release music for public consumption is a loaded desire. So much gets attached to it. It’s hard to do it just to do it. Just because you love it. Sampha writes music that helps me remember why I love writing music. It’s pure, it’s deeply personal, it’s just—beautiful. I remember hearing this song and like, crying. I felt like he was talking directly to me—I know how cliche that sounds. As you listen to him sing the chorus, it becomes a sort of mantra. “Let it all work out” starts to feel like he’s actually saying “It will all work it” for some reason. I think it’s an infinitely hopeful song. Like he wrote it as a pep talk to himself. He's working through his emotions and experiences on paper. In front of us all. You can’t fake that.

5 x F x NEON GOLD RECORDS - our friends at the influential music label curate this week's playlist.
Listen: https://soundcloud.com/allsaints/sets/5-x-f-x-neon-gold-records
Feat: Christine And The Queens, The Knocks, POWERS, Seinabo Sey, Tigertown, Marina & The Diamonds, St. Lucia

Online: www.neongoldrecords.com
Twitter:@neongoldrecords
Insta:@neongoldrecords

CHRISTINE AND THE QUEENS x SAINT CLAUDE
Already at Sam Smith-level ubiquity in her native France, Christine And The Queens is about to be everywhere in the US and UK too. Combining tight, plucked HAIM punctuation, Lorde-esque production and the throwback sweetness and poise of Peter Gabriel with a live show to make them all jealous, she’s our number one pick for global superstardom in 2015 and beyond.

THE KNOCKS x CLASSIC x POWERS
The Knocks have long been our favorite NYC partystarters, and their quintessential cut 'Classic' will probably be our go-to summer anthem from now until the end of time. But it's this slow burning 'Sunset Version' from POWERS - who co-wrote and feature on the original - that reinvents the track in a majestic downtempo haze, putting the track in a whole new light that perfectly compliments the single version in every way.

SEINABO SEY x YOUNGER
Seinabo Sey is without a doubt THE. VOICE. of this year's rising class of pop hopefuls. One listen to instant classic debut single ‘Younger’ and it’s not hard to see why.

TIGERTOWN x PAPERNOTE
Sydney's Tigertown have made the impressive jump from relative obscurity to potential song of the summer contenders in the space of one single, and that record is 'Papernote'. Once it hits that top-down, wind-in-your-hair moment in the chorus, it already feels like the Southern Hemisphere’s answer to Passion Pit and St. Lucia that we’ve been thirsting for our entire lives.

MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS x FROOT x ST. LUCIA
St. Lucia and Marina are the original King and Queen of Neon Gold - artists we've worked closely with since they took their very first steps into the world all those years ago - and this spring we gazed on proudly as they were united at last in everlasting remix matrimony. St. Lucia takes Marina's already anthemic comeback single 'FROOT' and puts a massive intergalactic spin on it, injecting it with a pulsing backbeat and technicolor electronics for nearly six minutes of dancefloor majesty.

5 x F x CRUSHED BEAKS

SPECTRES x WHERE FLIES SLEEP
Spectres' album Dying sounds absolutely monstrous and it's the best thing I've heard in ages. They
literally do not care about making music to please others, and with this album seem to have found themselves in a bleak but strangely fertile niche. Once you settle into it, the sound becomes strangely cathartic.

YOUNGHUSBAND x LEFT OF THE ROCKS
Although Younghusband share a label with Spectres, they couldn't sound more different. Younghusband combine watery, shimmery guitar and keyboard textures with an unending solid pulse. I sound like a music journalist oh god. Anyway this chorus has been stuck in my head for weeks. They also do an amazing cover of John Cale's 'Gun'.

JOEY FOURR x MY DOLPHINS
This is a song about playing baseball underwater with dolphins - what more could you possibly want? Magical stuff. Play it cool kids.

LA DUSSELDORF x SILVER CLOUD
La Dusseldorf is the band that Klaus Dinger went on to form after leaving Kraftwerk. Melodic, motorik and focused, La Dusseldorf's 1976 debut album is a lost masterpiece. Thanks Iggy Pop for the heads up on this one!

ALVVAYS x ARCHIE, MARRY ME
The perfect pop song, I still can't get enough of this. Makes me a bit giddy every time I listen to it. It's somehow heartfelt, funny and sad at the same time.

5 x F x ROYAL BLOOD - as guest curated by the band

JUNGLE x BUSY EARNING
This has been on every playlist I’ve made in the past year! If you come to one of our shows you’ll hear this in the playlist before we come on. We’ve got to know the guys from Jungle from playing so many of the same festivals – I just absolutely love this tune. It’s great for the summer and will be remaining on my playlists for the rest of this year.

MINI MANSIONS x VERTIGO
Mini Mansions supported us on our UK tour and we’re touring again with them in North America in May/June so I’m looking forward to hearing this live again every night. They’re great guys, we’ve been fortunate to have such good support acts. This is off their new record ‘The Great Pretenders’ and features a verse from Alex Turner. Check out the video.

TAME IMPALA x LET IT HAPPEN
This is the first track from their new record ‘Current’s – which I reckon will be the soundtrack for the Summer. This is a classic Tame Impala track, 7 minutes of chilled out, psychedelic rock. We played with them at Finsbury Park with Arctic Monkeys, ‘Lonerism’ is one of my favourite albums so I’m looking forward to the new one.

LYKKE LI x GUNSHOT
I love Lykke Li – she’s an amazing performer. This track is off her third record, she’s someone who’s consistently put out great records. I’d love to meet her, something about her voice is a calming influence. This is a good one for travelling across America on the tourbus.

THE XCERTS x SHAKING IN THE WATER
I’m good friends with The Xcerts, their new record is awesome – this is a track off that. But really you have to go and see this band live, be prepared for the best 1hour of your life full of excitement, vim, vigour, and another adjective that begins with V.

5 x F x BERNARD + EDITH

RHYE x OPEN
'Open' is a very accessible song and appeals to completely different people, which is what music is best at doing, bringing people together no matter what their differences are.

SPOOKY BLACK x WITHOUT YOU
Spooky Black can send you over the edge if you are feeling slightly emotional, his voice and tone deeply moving. ‘Without You’ really touches my heart strings, you don’t get many artists that can do that these days, who can make your heart feel heavy.

ERYKAH BADU x THE HEALER
This song is a classic. I love the chant of the vocal melody and the way the music surrounds the voice like a cave full of shiny broken crystals. It's just a perfect song. Its one of those songs you wish you had made.

THE KNIFE x PASS THIS ON
The Knife are the band who got us into Electronic music. They are one of our main musical influences and this is our favourite track of theirs.

BURIAL x COME DOWN TO US
We first heard this song whilst watching Adam Curtis' BBC documentary bitter late, which is a masterpiece about how our view of the the world is skewed by the black and white/ right and wrong stories politicians and the media tell us. The documentary is centred around Afghanistan and how external influences have shaped the country. You really get a sense of how much of a beautiful and diverse place Afghanistan is. The song compliments the imagery of the film beautifully and when ever I hear it I am reminded that things aren't always what they seem.

5 x F x DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE - see bassist Nick Harmer’s thoughts on each song below
https://soundcloud.com/allsaints/sets/5-x-f-x-death-cab-for-cutie
Feat: Inventions, Alessandro Cortini, Laurie Spiegel, A Winged Victory For The Sullen & Nils Frahm

“Black Sun” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTbVIfqeDq0
http://deathcabforcutie.com/home/
https://twitter.com/dcfc
New album “Kintsugi” out now: https://open.spotify.com/album/6BK3muExDOuk0VnyMn9NVw

INVENTIONS x ESCAPERS
I dig this collaboration between members of Eluvium and Explosions In The Sky. The choppy beat, swirls of samples and beautiful guitar playing all work perfectly together to make this song a stand out for me on their newest album.

ALESSANDRO CORTINI x STELLA
Love Alessandro's work with Nine Inch Nails, and his solo work shows off what he is godhead at: lush, evolving synth textures. The Forse series are 3 incredible albums that are on constant rotation and I cannot wait to hear what he creates next.

LAURIE SPIEGEL x CLOCKWORKS
A reissued lost treasure from the birth of synthesis. Laurie's work on this album laid undeniable foundation for all electronic music and composition to come. It's difficult to believe this track is over 30 years old.

A WINGED VICTORY FOR THE SULLEN x ATOMOS VI
Gorgeous and patient, cinematic and calm. Nothing in my record collection even comes close to blending organic and synthetic textures and tones like A Winged Victory For The Sullen. Each time I play this I find a new moment that takes my breath away, a perfect soundtrack for the spring rains here in Seattle.

NILS FRAHM x WALL
A modern classical masterpiece, this track is from his brilliant album, Solo.
