Auction Tips from All American Storage in Lubbock
1. You will need your Driver’s license or other photo ID to register at an auction. Bring your tax ID number if plan to claim tax exempt status. Winning bidders will be required to pay tax on their purchase if they are not tax exempt.
2. It is free to participate in our auctions. At All American Storage there are no fees to register or bid. Since we officiate our own auctions, we are able to keep our auctions free to our bidders. Self-storage facilities that hire an auctioneer often have to charge a registration fee to cover this cost.
3. Bring Cash. Most storage facilities will only take cash from the winning bidder unless you’ve made other arrangements.
4. It’s a good idea to attend a few auctions as an observer before bidding. This will give you a good idea of how auctions work and how much cash to bring with you should you want to bid in the future. Generally, most self-storage facilities welcome lookers.
5. You bid on the entire space. Most storage facilities, ours included, auction off the entire contents of the space at once. You may have won treasure or trash, but it’s all yours. That being said, the storage facility may give the winning bidder a chance to leave behind items of a personal nature like photographs and personal papers to be returned to the owner.
6. You are generally not allowed to enter the storage locker before bidding. The door to the storage unit will be opened, but you won’t be allowed to enter the unit and look through boxes, etc. Bring a flashlight with you. It will help you see into the storage locker from the doorway before bidding.
7. Storage facility owners don’t make money off auctions. Auctions are a last resort for storage owners. Before a unit is auctioned, the tenant is normally several months behind on rent. By law, the storage owner is required to make every attempt to contact the owner which involves certified mail and posting an ad in a regional paper, both of which cost money. Time and money are spent attempting collection and holding an auction. Very rarely does an auction bring more than what a delinquent tenant owes, and by law if there is more collected than owned, it is refunded to the tenant. An auction is generally just a way for the storage facility to free up the space for a paying tenant.
8. Most storage units will give the winning bidder a certain amount of time to vacate the unit. Our winning bidders get 24 hours to clean out the space. If you plan to take more time to sort and sift through items, be prepared to rent the space.
9. Winning bids vary by the number of people bidding, the number of units up for bid, the appeal of the storage locker and even the weather. If you are willing to brave some bad weather you’ll likely get a good deal as the number of people showing up to bid will be low. Want a good locker? Don’t pass by a small auction with only a few units for sale. Many bidders only show up for large auctions, but you never know when that lonely only locker is your treasure.
10. Big auctions can take time and be tiring. Don’t hesitate to bring a lawn chair to rest your legs and a cold drink to refresh yourself

Six signs you might be a serial mover? 1. Your friends no longer write down your new address in pen. Pencil and eraser is much safer. 2. You can't remember your zip code and your older than six. 3. You haven't unpacked boxes from you last move. 4. Your friends with pickup trucks no longer return your calls or text. 5. You can't resist the temptation of one month's free rent at the new apartment complex. 6. Beer and pizza is no longer enough to entice your friends to help you move. Seriously, at All American Storage we understand and we're here to help with the short-term storage that you may need between moves. Need a space just for a month? We're fine with that.
Put our number in your phone for your next move. We'll be here with a cold drink and a smile to welcome you back. So, Happy Moving. #storage  #moving #Lubbock #short term storage # storageinlubbock

Moving off to college is never easy or cheap. Here's a couple of ideas for students and parents on a budget. 1. Collect coupons for popular restaurants near your student's school and mail them to them once a month. Now that late night pizza party won't be so expensive. 2. Send your student discounted gift cards from places like Raise.com (Just be sure your student uses the gift cards quickly so they are still guaranteed).Speaking of gift cards, most of us have some partially used or even unused gift cards hanging around our house. Send them to you student. 3. Have you student load coupon Apps on their smart phone like RetailMeNot or Groupon. Teach them to always look for a discount before they check out at any store. 4. For parents, make money for scanning your receipts on Apps like Ibotta, Receipt Hog, or Walmart Savings Catcher. Deposit the money you earn directly into their PayPal account or mail them the voucher. I'm able to regularly able to send my college age daughter $20 in Walmart vouchers just by scanning my Walmart receipts into my phone. 5. Of course, when you student needs storage, we're her to help with great prices and student friendly service. We love our students at All American Storage in Lubbock. Check out our coupon page for student freebies. WWW.allamericanstorage.com
