Alfred Hermida is an online news pioneer, digital media scholar and journalism educator. He is an associate professor at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada where he leads the integrated journalism program  He was a founding editor of the BBCNews.com website and during his time as daily news editor, the site became widely recognized as one of the best online news services in the world. Prof Hermida's research focuses on participatory journalism and new transformative models of journalism education. His work has been published in Journalism Practice. He is a frequent commentator in the media on digital media trends, and blogs at Reportr.net.
