Many years ago I was a software technology professional. I was a Program Manager at Gartner Group (previously Meta Group), worked at a number of exciting but unsuccessful start up companies, before making my way west to Silicon Valley where I was happy at a subsidiary of Apple. Sadly this was back before Apple became super cool. Back when nobody believed that people would actually buy video from iTunes. Yes that actually was the prevailing belief back then. Crazy right?
Anyway I have an MBA and a MS Finance and had the sort of career that I could hold up and be proud of. Aaaaand then I had kids.
There are people who can be a successful corporate employee while balancing life, husband, and kids. I am not one of those people. I made the decision that being a stay at home Mom was the right move for our family, despite the fact that it's the entirely _wrong_ for our checking account (always) and my sanity (sometimes).
A few years ago I started blogging about kids and sleep. I had no expectation that anybody would ever read it. Primarily this was an experiment in using wordpress, experimenting with SEO, social media, etc.
3 years later Precious Little Sleep gets over 600,000 page views a month and has a fantastic and active community on G+ and Facebook. I'm working on a book on kids and sleep and I'm terrified that it will blow huge. It's on target for launch in Fall of 2014 and so I'm obsessed with everything about writing and book marketing these days. Blogging has led to things that I never could have guessed at when I started. Three cheers to all the amazing peeps who have helped make it all happen (you know who you are and I love you)!
*The Personal Story*
I've lived all over the US but currently we've settled into Vermont. There are days I hate it here (hint: any day in March is a day you _don't_ want to be in Vermont) but mostly it's a fantastic place to live and raise a family.
I love my family desperately. I also love trail running, skiing (XC and downhill), and adventure races. I am a huge reader and easily read 1 book a week which break down as: 10% nonfiction/business books, 40% fantasy, 40% regency romance (no judging!). My husband is French and has helped me develop an abiding love of cheese, bread, and wine.
I am also a huge geek about Survivor, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones.
