The latest #StarWars Trailer is here, how did you feel after watching it?
We've all grown up watching the films, cartoons, playing the video games & making lame pop culture references to it. I just watched the trailer another three times and after further viewing, I believe it has the potential to be the best #StarWars
film in the series.
I know that's a big statement especially from a star wars fan, but it seems to have all the right elements. Interesting characters, drama, mystery, lovely pacing, strong thematic direction, young people questioning ideas (the society they live in, purpose, culture, politics, justice and morality). It also has that 'broken down technology' aesthetic, we all loved from the originals - the style that made them authentic star wars films.
The new film looks more in keeping with the #originaltrilogy and has an authenticity to it, even succeeding in giving me that sense of enjoyment and wonder I first had as a child watching the originals (a very good sign). I hope this film can stand up on its own merit with #JJAbrams at the helm. I wonder if writer, #LawrenceKasdan, who's also the writer of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, has crafted something profound with this instalment? Star wars is after all, the most beloved and famous film franchise in movie history and will permeate popular culture on its release, regardless of whether it's a good film, a mediocre one, or completely terrible... We don't yet know?
Not only has it got the potential to make Abrams the biggest Movie Director of all-time (and successor to #Spielberg), but may also be a modern day Sci-fi masterpiece. It would be wonderful if it helped open up interesting discussions about 'good ideas' vs 'bad ones', the dangers of centralised monopolies of force e.g. Governments, and their effects on our economic & individual freedoms. Who knows, maybe it will?
