Second is the name. Calling it "android" or "droid" anything seems amateur (just my opinion). Come up with a name you would see on a system app. Something simple like "message center" or message hub or anything along those lines. Side note on that... If this does get big, you will almost definitely have copyright issues using the DROID name.
Third. Making a text messenger is not easy at all, but adding the ability to send an sms is easy. Add the option to reply to texts directly from the app. Make it a quick reply so you don't have to worry about the hell of mms.
Add better gmail support since everyone with an Android phone has one. Don't make the user enter the hostname and port for gmail, it'll turn the average user away.
Not going to comment on the lack of Facebook. Considering the app, I'm sure it's something you're working on and though I've never tried it myself, I've heard integrating Facebook is horribly difficult.
