My latest post for Grammar Style Life is live: Why I Travel. I just can't go on enough plane rides to new places.
In September, I was on eight plane rides (plus two train rides and untold numbers of metro/subway rides) and in seven cities. Even now that I'm back, I'm thinking about where I'm going next: how lo...

Sometimes you need a separate, dedicated site to highlight a certain product or promotion. Here are some tips from the people behind Serenad

If you want the ultimate in dim sum cart experiences, you must head to Jing Fong. The banquet hall is massive, and the waiters will lead you to your table by walkie talkie. The pork buns and shrimp dumplings are excellent, as is the sticky rice in lotus leaf. Even the chicken feet come in multiple flavors, if you're into cartilage. It's worth the wait. If they tell you 45 minutes, it will most likely be less than that. Stick it out.

Dough is by far the best doughnut shop in New York City, that is if you're into yeast doughnuts (and if you're not, you will be). There is not a doughnut they don't make splendidly, particularly the nutella stuffed doughnut, the lemon poppyseed glazed, and the dulce du leche. Each doughnut is pillowy and soft, with the perfect glaze to dough ratio, so that you're never left wanting more. You can't go wrong sitting inside with your doughnut and a cup of Brooklyn Roast coffee, watching people pass by on Lafayette. BONUS: Dough also makes some of the pastries for a few local markets such as Choice Greene, all of which are delicious.

This truly is the best ramen in New York City. Don't let those other places fool you. The scoop of miso and pork goodness in every bowl will change the way you think about ramen. The lunch special with half off appetizers is almost too much food for one person, but somehow you'll get over it when you see a plate of spicy tuna over a bed of rice that can out match any sushi joint in midtown. It's cash only, which while that's annoying, I'd much rather get cash and get the joy of eating here. This location is much less busy than it's sister location on 9th and 52nd, and I've rarely had to wait more than ten minutes for a party of two.

Get a collection of small tea cookies. There are sandwich cookies with chocolate and hazelnut, mini shortbread, and much more. Each cookie is delightfully different and perfectly shaped. If you're not in a cookie mood, the whoopie pies are always seasonally flavored and delicious.

Entering the opera house is like taking a step back in time. The architecture is beautiful and well maintained. There's a definite feel of history, of those coming to see a performance many years ago (except for the fact that on a Thursday night for the opera, many people were dressed in jeans). Sitting in the obstructed seats definitely impacted my view of The Turn of the Screw. Although, that's what one gets for purchasing the cheap seats. 80% of the show was unobstructed.

Olea is great for brunch before visiting the Brooklyn Flea or for happy hour and dinner after a long work day. The cocktails are thoughtfully created by their bartenders and every plate is sure to satisfy. I'm a big fan of their various dips, particularly the tzatziki and skordalia.

The french onion soup is very, very good (though a tad saltier than you would find in France, but that's the case in all American restaurants). The creme caramel is outstanding. This is the perfect place to go for a midtown lunch date or an evening before heading off to a museum or the theater. The servers are very helpful and you can feel the French-ness in the air.
