Ok, so I binge watched the Battlestar Galactica series over the last month or so, the full 4 series. And what a sordid mess.

Yeah, lots of good, but lots of bad, and some outright awful. The good bits is how it started, some of the acting, the reasonable effects and environments, the claustrophobia and the effects and distress of war and fleeing, the suspense of it all and how easily we go from good to bad when push comes to shove. Oh, and I loved how they dared to kill people off, just like in, you know, real life. Game of thrones gets a lot of praise (and anger) for this, but these guys were a few steps ahead.

The bad bits were the tons and tons of cliches, the concept of human cylons (they simply wouldn't be so similar all the way down to a molecular level, that's just bonzo) first version or the second cloned versions, the rebirth with all memories downloaded to a nearby hub (over what, telepathy? ugh ... they should have made it so that in order to respawn there had to be some physical DNA / matter transfer, would be a far more interesting story with so many McGuffins all over the place), all the talk about humans vs. machines (no one is that stupid to think that passing the Turing test so convincingly can be forgotten in an instance with a meme), some of the acting (mostly forgiven by being a TV series on a low budget, although there were some in that cast I expected to be better and some I thought did better than expected), and a lot of the mechanical WW2 in Space storytelling. ugh.

And the awful bit; religion. The twist at the beginning of the series - it's a jihad! - turned out not to be a twist at all. Not even a twist on the religious spin! The angels that said they were angels were - in fact - angels, except the one who suspect she was an angel turned out to be an actual angel. All of it was written in a holy book that actually were true and holy. The concept of Eve being traced back to the child everyone thought were the hope for both humans and cylons. Dreams were correct and true and holy and fitted neatly into a huge fluffy McGuffin that pulled everything together at the last minute. Very handy.

So. Mixed. I think it all went down the tubes from the end of the second series, that was just a bad choice of the cylon occupation. And there was a huge missed opportunity in not following up on the changes in the centurions ... that's the point you give them a voicebox; that would make for awesome stuff, a far more interesting freedom story that the humanoid cylons (who already can express their story).

Anyhoo. Now what should I watch?

Why do Americans care if Trump will accept the results or not? Either he wins, or the whole democratic system held together by hundreds of thousands of people from all political and socio-economic groupings are conspiring together? I'm just so baffled by the immaturity of Trump and mystified as to why anyone would care that he doesn't like the result?

I had a draft of this sitting still for too long, brushed it off, and sent it packing ...

Just made a site for a wine-maker friend of mine. Check it out if you truly, madly, absolutely love wine, and let me know what you think. http://salet.com.au/

Almost wet myself laughing while driving today. Took eldest daughter to camp, wasn't quite sure of the way, and put address into Google navigator. Had signed up at Google. Com/star_wars a couple of days ago. So. The car that shows your position while driving had been replaced by an x-wing fighter! Friggin' awesome! Made cool laser firing sounds all the way. Daughter did not think I was cool. :)
