There's several reasons coming together to finally make that decision:

I'm spending way too much time on basically doing nothing on G+. At the same time, I'm quite frustrated by the new user interface, which makes it hard to follow discussions on posts, and it's being focused on featuring images too prominently. And then, I'm fed up with online service platforms in general - a handful of distributed systems under the control of a a few big organizations is just not the kind of infrastructure I wanted to end up with when I started using the Internet, over 20 years ago (nearly 25, counting UUCP access).
