Recently I put together a list on equipment I see as useful for landscape photography and thought it might be of interest to some people here. Hope it helps!

A small write up about neutral density filters and how to use them. They're not necessarily a must for landscape photography but I find them especially useful in the right conditions.

Workflow & Processing ►  -

This image was captured on a windy evening on a rural property a few months ago. With the conditions being windy, this meant the clouds above were moving quite rapidly so I set my camera up to capture multiple exposures at of varying lengths to get the clouds moving. For the setup I was using a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 17-40, B+W 110 (10 stop ND filter) and a Cokin Z-Pro .9 grad for the sky. I shot a few 3-5 minute exposure images (made possible by the B+W 110 and .9 grad filters) and would use this for the top half of the frame. Shooting at an exposure length of this time, I was running the risk of the grass and branches of the tree moving and blurring through the exposure. To minimise any blur from the long exposure I also captured a short exposure which would be used for the bottom half of the frame.

With the images captured, I loaded them directly into Photoshop and began layer masking the various exposures to combine various parts of each image into the final image. As I said at the start, the image was very much experimental for me with the intention of creating an emphasis on the tree and reflections with the rest of the scene fading off to a vignette. It’s definitely not the most perfect edit but was a lot of playing around and learning as I went with various curves and saturation layers for colour grading and dodge/burning for various parts of the scene.

Thanks and open to any feedback/criticism people may have.

Over June I spent a weekend exploring rural Victoria. It was great and just before the winter chill really set in. This was taken just on sunset of a lone tree on the property which we were staying on.

One thing I love about the iPhone is with the right apps, it can capture stunning looking long exposures that could rival a DSLR. This article explores what apps and equipment I recommend for capturing long exposures with your iPhone.

One of my favourite things is standing knee deep in a stream taking photographs of waterfalls. For this reason I put together a guide on photographing waterfalls, explaining what equipment you will need, which settings work best and other little tips.

Taken a few months back in the beautiful Howqua Valley, Victoria. Crossing the river to get this shot left my feet numb for a few hours later but it sure was worth it. It's quite the feeling standing knee deep in water just on your own with your camera in hand.  Nice and relaxing even if you're freezing ;)

Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 17-40, Hoya circular polariser and tripod.
