Startrails and Stacking  -

A shot from earlier this month in Terlingua, Texas. I think I'll call this one "Polaris and the North Star."  Enjoy!

For the photo geeks out there, I shot about 35 images to get this image, including a handful of test shots. The star trails are created from 11 consecutive 5 minute exposures. Prior to exposing the star trail sequence the Polaris and ground were light painted using various light sources (tungsten-filtered strobe, tungsten flashlight and red LED). I ended up compositing 6 different exposures to form the Polaris and ground. Add the 11 star exposures and I ended up using 17 of the 35 exposures I shot for this image.

The images were processed in Aperture 3.4.4 and composited in Photoshop CS6. Define 2 from the Nik Collection was use to knock down some of the noise in the sky. There is still a lot of noise, but it is a fraction of what came out of the camera.

That was a fun photowalk.  A couple of my images made it into this BBC video.  I'm also in there a few times.  Who else do you recognize?

Google+ PhotoWalk on the BBC!  This was not the recent big one in Melbourne with +Paul Pavlinovich but the one right after it in Austin during SXSW with +Dave Wilson.  I see lots of familiar faces in this video!  I see +Curtis Simmons +Lotus Carroll +Lisa Donchak +Simi Shonowo   +Alex Suarez *(and who else do you see?)* and of course +LJ Rich from the BBC.   If anyone else can find the YouTube video that I can actually embed, that would be cool.

Last week I created a new photo blog, iFoodography, specifically of only food and drink that I've photographed with my iPhone. It's something I do for fun. Give it a look.  Add it to your Google Reader. Share your thoughts--good, bad or indifferent. http://ifoodography.com/

A new blog post about my recent trip to Lockhart, Texas. We photographed the county courthouse and had some great barbecue at Black's BBQ.
