Chromecast sampling rate?
I am a little bit confused about what I get out from Google Play Music through the new Chromecast Audio. My DAC shows 48kHz, which makes absolutely no sense. If records on CD are the fundament of Google Play Music (and the service also allows to upload your own CD's), why do they sample it to 48kHz? CD's are based on a sampling rate of 44kHz/16bit. So when I upload a CD, it will be resampled to 48kHz? Why?
I have connected my Chromecast Audio with a toslink cable, so the Chromecast internal DAC should not be used. Where is this 48kHz coming from? Is it Google Play Music or the Chromecast Audio device? Also, when using a toslink connection, the streaming quality of Chromecast Audio will automatically been set to "HD Audio", which is according to Google: 96kHz/24bit. Nope, does not work at all. +Google Play
& +Google Cast
, can you tell me please, what exactly are you doing?
BTW: Never mind the "HDMI In" on my DAC. This is a photo of the test done with the Chromecast Video. Same result :-(
