Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with. He is also, one of the loyalest and most supportive people I've ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I'm pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn't have to do that. I know other people who've been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say "if you call Alan, it doesn't matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he's doing, he'll get back to you within a day".

People create perceptions of actors based on the parts they played so it might surprise some people to learn that contrary to some of the sterner(or downright scary) characters he played, Alan was extremely kind, generous, self-deprecating and funny. And certain things obviously became even funnier when delivered in his unmistakable double-bass.

As an actor he was one of the first of the adults on Potter to treat me like a peer rather than a child. Working with him at such a formative age was incredibly important and I will carry the lessons he taught me for the rest of my life and career. Film sets and theatre stages are all far poorer for the loss of this great actor and man.

How ‘Privilege’ Became a Provocation http://nyti.ms/1K40Ncu
Invoking the word is an acknowledgment of racial and social advantages. But it is also seen as an epithet used to shame.

Hey fans of #StarWars. The scheduled day is fast coming up upon us, but the bad news is that we have not sold the minimum number of tickets! This is an awesome workshop that was sold out in Stockholm and raved about in London, and we’d really like to see it happen here in San Francisco.

We’re making one last big push to try and get the word out, and you can help. Can you share, +1, email, or text friends, nerds, and designers you know who you think might be interested, or who you think would have as great a time as you? Feel free to share the following URL with them.

May the force be with us to bring Redesigning Star Wars to SF on 18 SEP! Please share, as 9 SEP is the do-or-die.

Star Wars was originally released in 1977, long before audiences had the daily deep engagement with computers that we have today, and long before interaction design was its own profession. What was...

The stock market tumble could (and should) call into question the rise of multibillion dollar valuations of private companies.

My favorite spot for a great cocktail in the city.

I have now had two incredible meals at Aziza. The cocktail program is great, I highly recommend the celery, sage, agave and gin cocktail. Other highlights include the duck bastiya which is out of this world! Great spot for dates, but doesn't have to be romantic. This is definitely one of my favorite spots in the city.

Mariel is an angel at John Brody salon. For a great hair cut by highly skilled stylists, you can't beat it. I've referred numerous friends here and they've all raved about it just like I do.

I had an incredible experience at Photobooth. I took my parents here to do some portraits which would really capture where I cam from, and I liked the bare and soulful style I'd seen on their website. Upon entering we were greeted by Melissa with a warm reception and a cold PBR! We worked with Kari, the photographer, to get the pose we wanted and poof, the magic happened. She took us back to the dark room to see the photos as they developed and I couldn't have been more pleased with the result. She really captured the essence of each of us. This is an experience you'll be hard pressed to find outside of San Francisco. Whether it's with your parents, loved ones, or just by yourself, I highly recommend you visit Photobooth.

One of the best burgers in San Francisco. Add in awesome cocktails, a nice beer selection and great fries and onion rings and this place is a surefire hit. Great atmosphere for a date, but laid back enough to just go with friends for a burger and a beer. I tried to do a marrow burger and poutine on one occasion, and it was just too rich for one meal. That said, the poutine is delicious.

An awesome selection of delicious burgers. I was in a meat lovers mood so had the brisket burger which was delicious. The spiced ketchups and mayonnaises make for great dipping sauces. My shake was good but next to the outstanding burger and fries it seemed to be an afterthought.
