Good luck +Vic Gundotra....sure we'll hear from you again.

And Then

Last month, my wife's uncle died in a tragic accident in LA when the bicycle he was using to get lunch was hit by a truck. At the memorial service his daughter relayed a very touching story.

She said her dad (who was her best friend) called every day to talk. But instead of opening the call with the customary "How are you" or "What's going on", her dad always opened the conversation with "And then?" Her father viewed each conversation as a continuation of the last, and what pained her the most was that there were to be no more "and thens". I cried.

Since then I've thought a lot about how similar this is to our life's endeavors. We pour our heart and soul into our work and it becomes something we love and cherish. But even the challenges we work on today will one day become "and thens" as we move on to the next.

Today I'm announcing my departure from Google after almost 8 years.

I have been incredibly fortunate to work with the amazing people of Google. I don't believe there is a more talented and passionate collection of people anywhere else. And I'm overwhelmed when I think about the leadership of +Larry Page and what he empowered me to do while at Google. From starting Google I/O, to being responsible for all mobile applications, to creating Google+, none of this would have happened without Larry's encouragement and support.

I'm also forever in debt to the Google+ team. This is a group of people who built social at Google against the skepticism of so many. The growth of active users is staggering, and speaks to the work of this team. But it doesn't tell you what kind of people they are. They are invincible dreamers. I love them. And I will miss them dearly.

Finally, thank you to all those who I've met on Google+. The community here has been so supportive that I don't even know how to say thank you. You all make Google+. Without you, this social network wouldn't exist. Your support for Google+, and for me personally is something I will never forget.

But, now is the time for a new journey. A continuation. An "and then". I am excited about what's next. But this isn't the day to talk about that. This is a day to celebrate the past 8 years. To cry. And smile. And to look forward to the journey yet to come.

And then....
+Vic Gundotra

On the fence about getting a Samsung Galaxy S5 but not pulling the trigger because it doesn't have enough sparkle? Well, you're in luck as Samsung has announced the Crystal Collection for Samsung Galaxy S5 with real Swarovski crystals.

It's real. And it's fucked.
Planned new rules would allow an Internet provider to negotiate separately with content companies and charge them for priority service.

Hmmmm, so if internet is NOT a utility as the court says, does that mean cable companies can switch to IP based video content to deliver channels (ESPN, CNN etc.)? And since they are not a utility, no franchise fees will have to be paid to cities & towns to sell their products? I can just hear local politicians screaming now!

I've complained about Facebook in the past. My feelings have largely remained the same. It's no secret that Facebook doesn't seem to respect your privacy

I bought a 2010 Honda Fit Sport from Valley Honda last night 4/16/14. This is the 4th car we have purchased from Valley Honda and the customer service and quality is unmatched! I will not go to any other dealership as long as we live in this area. Our salesman for all 4 cars has been Jeremy Andrews, you should see him when you're there. He's awesome, polite, courteous and very helpful. The entire staff is 5 stars and I recommend Valley Honda to anyone looking for a new or used car.

One of the best Chinese place in Naperville. Love love the Kung Pao and my wife loves the pork fried rice. We used to live less than a mile from here and it was our go to place. The only complaint I have is the crab rangoons could be a little more crabbier and less creme cheese. But other than that, the food is amazing....and portions are HUGE! We only ever got the small sizes and still had left overs!

Full disclosure. This is my home church. That being said. This place is truly a great place to worship! The atmosphere is inviting and the people are just awesome! Great place for kids as well. The children's department is hopping with as many kids as there are here. If you're looking for a home church, I highly recommend you at least visit The Compass Church on 95th.

Quaint and unique little pie shop. Key Lime Pie is amazing as is the cheesecake with raspberry compote. You can sit outside in their garden area with a cool collection of doors as a fence. The pies are a bit on the high end price wise, but the ingredients are fresh and the pies are just awesome! Probably not somewhere you would go to get pies everyday, but then, who eats pies everyday? If you remember, be sure to visit the bathroom, very cool decor in there and kind of threw me for a loop for a split second. LOL Overall, I recommend this place!

Probably one of the closest to authentic Mexican places in Naperville. The tacos are nearly what I remember as a kid. The menudo is very good as well, could be a tad better but it works. Just some real good food here. It looks like the restaurant is an old taco bell but I'm not sure. I'd recommend this place but remember, this is not Americanized Mexican, this is the real deal. Some stomachs may not take well to the differences.

Great family fun in downtown Naperville. The pool is very nice and the sand play area is just so fun for the little ones. Pricing can be a bit heavy if you're a non-resident. Last time we went you were allowed to bring in a cooler with food and drinks. Vending is pricey so I recommend BYOF. Downtown Naperville is just a few blocks away. Great place to go for some swimming and shopping.

I'm a huge fan of Archaeology and Paleontology and the Chicago Field Museum is filled with great exhibits and knowledge on both subjects. Great facility which also fulfills my love of Architecture. Great place for kids to learn and be transported to another time. Highly recommended.
