「三姑六婆 – 親戚稱呼計算機」家族聚會難不倒你!(Android)

https://briian.com/26979/relativescalc.html

A new therapy -- CRISPR beats HIV

Salk scientists re-engineered the bacterial defense system CRISPR to destroy HIV.

Cellular scissors chop up HIV virus.

Salk scientists re-engineered the bacterial defense system CRISPR to recognize HIV inside human cells and destroy the virus, offering a potential new therapy.

CRISPR uses bits of genetic material called guide RNAs to dictate its cuts, so the scientists developed guide RNAs that bound to unique spots on the HIV virus. They added CRISPR, the guide RNAs and other molecules needed for the system to work to immune cells that had been infected with HIV, and found that CRISPR successfully cut the right spots in HIV’s genes, inactivating the virus. This resulted in the virus being completely removed from up to 72 percent of cells. Not only did CRISPR chop up loose copies of the virus as they initially infected the cell, but it also cut up HIV that was hidden and dormant within the cells’ DNA.

The Biology of Regeneration -- Riddle solved using AI

Computer identified the final two previously unknown keys in the process of regeneration.

For the first time ever a computer has managed to develop a new scientific theory using only its artificial intelligence, and with no help from human beings

You cannot fool yourself with sweeteners. Your food tastes sweeter, but it cannot quench your thirst for carbohydrates -- probably because we have the gene to differentiate it from real sugar.

Is the Zika virus related to microcephaly, the small brain symptom?

What's Zika Virus?
The mosquito-borne virus is spreading through 24 regions around the world. What do we know about this strange illness?

Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week. Severe disease requiring hospitalization is uncommon. No vaccine or medications are available to prevent or treat Zika infections.

In May 2015, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued an alert regarding the first confirmed Zika virus infection in Brazil. The outbreak in Brazil led to reports of Guillain-Barre syndrome and pregnant women giving birth to babies with birth defects and poor pregnancy outcomes.

Pregnant women are being urged to think twice before traveling to Latin American and Caribbean countries battling a rise in cases of microcephaly — a rare but brutal condition that shrinks the brains of unborn babies.

But the virus and the birth defects have not been scientifically linked, leaving many questions about what is happening to these children in the womb. Microcephaly itself is not a disease. It's a condition caused by the failure of a fetus's brain to develop in the mother's womb. There can be a number of causes, including toxoplasmosis, cytomegalovirus, syphilis, rubella and genetic abnormalities. So first, the researchers need to rule out these causes out.

In their research, the doctors have made some startling discoveries: There are some unique markers in the infants who have suspected cases of Zika-related microcephaly.

You can choose!

says Agatha (Minority Report).

And the frogs can choose, too. The embryo can decide when to leave the egg to become a tadpole!

Frog embryos take a risk by hatching early, Karen Warkentin says, "but if you're going to die in the egg, you might as well take your chances in the pond."

+cocker dunn the eggs can decide to hatch early into (pre-term) tadpoles, or stay longer as an egg to develop better. It depends on whether they perceive it is more dangerous to stay as eggs (and be eaten if found) or as tadpoles (if not fully developed, may be difficult to escape from predators).

Similar to the Cheshire Cat, a Cheshire Photon is a polarization without a photo.

(Phys.org)—"A grin without a cat" is how Lewis Carroll describes the Cheshire Cat's mysterious way of disappearing while leaving its grin behind in his 1865 classic, Alice in Wonderland. The fanciful character raises a question that has captured physicists' attention over the past few years: can an object be separated from its properties?

Virgin Births in Sawfish

Much more common than previously thought.

In the past, there was a general feeling that vertebrate parthenogenesis was a curiosity that didn’t usually lead to viable offspring, This is probably untrue.

A small number of sawfish in Florida appear to reproduce without sex. Are these virgin births more common in the wild than previously thought?

The signature dish cheese spaghetti is really good. Actually everything we ate was tasty. The soup, the salad and the desert. The mall it is in is a bit out of the way and looks deserted.
