Today I take a look at sound cards for the Pi. I have a large stack of different boards to look at. Let's start with three DACs capable of producing really good quality sound.

http://raspi.tv/2016/dac-review
I have received a fairly enormous selection of Raspberry Pi audio cards from four suppliers (Pimoroni, IQaudIO, HiFiBerry and JustBoom). It’s a bewildering array of DACs and AMPs, which allow…

It is nice, but it's a lot of work. The DAC review took 3 evenings playing with the DACs plus 2 days to make the video and a day to do the blog. When you work out the hourly rate Vs the value of the goods it's not that great. (But I try not to think of it in those terms, since not everything is a 'money gig') :)

Something changed with get_iplayer and the way it works. So I've updated the full instructions detailing how to sort it out. This also acts as an update to the instructions in MagPi 33 and the Official Raspberry Pi Projects Book too.

I've been a bit quiet for the last week or so. I've been away from social media for a whole week for the first time since I started RasPi.TV First dive since 2003 as well.

Updated Raspberry Pi family photo with A+ 512, Zero 1.3 and 2B 1.2. I had this ready to publish and just heard about 11 million Pi sales being reached, so it seemed like the ideal time to share it.

http://raspi.tv/2016/raspberry-pi-family-photo-update-november-2016
Since the February 2016 launch of the Raspberry Pi 3B there have been three new Pi released. They’re not major revisions, but they are different. Around May the A+ got a 512 MB memory upgrade…

There's a new Pi in town. It's the Pi2 1.2 which has had a processor upgrade (brain transplant) to the BCM2837 from the Pi3. It won't be what most people want/need, but it's another Pi variant produced mainly for industrial use.

http://raspi.tv/2016/new-raspberry-pi-2b-1-2-with-pi3-bcm2837-processor
Back in September a new version of the Pi2 quietly appeared on Farnell’s website without a fanfare. It’s exactly the same as the original Pi2 except the processor is BCM2837 running at …

Interesting you have 900021 which isn't on the elinux list. Looks like you are just missing 0015 and 920093

Looking up words we don't know from our vocab test using python and dictionary.com

I've written another script to do dictionary lookups of the words I didn't know from the vocab test. Code is shared in the blog post and on github.

http://raspi.tv/2016/extending-python-vocab-tester-with-dictionary-lookups-and-storage
In my previous blog post, I showed you my Python based vocabulary tester and suggested some ways it could be “taken further”. You probably won’t be overly surprised to hear that I…

I have a predilection for preventing proliferation of pontificatory prose (<--- like this) but I've written a Python program to help test your vocabulary. It was written and runs on a Raspberry Pi in Python 3. Should work on any computer with Python 3. Enjoy. And please try it out and share your scores.

http://raspi.tv/2016/how-to-estimate-your-vocabulary-using-a-python-script-and-the-scrabble-word-list
The other day I read an article on the BBC website which suggested a method to estimate your vocabulary. Essentially, you sample 20 pages of your dictionary and note down how many words you know on…

Verily I vie to vet my vocabulary in vaulted ventures of vanity and stuff.

I'll give it a shot sometime this weekend.
