Cliff Tops Sunset

After a delicious dinner cooked by the staff of the LeConte Lodge, and a nice presentation of the Parks history, we hiked a short trail to the Cliff Tops, known for it's beautiful sunsets.

From the time we arrived at the Lodge and the time left for the Cliff Tops, LeConte Lodge had recorded more than 1.2 inches of rain, so it was unsure as to the view that we would get once we reached the Cliff Tops.  But we were not disappointed at all.  The fog and clouds combined for a dramatic sunset.

Another must see, when visiting LeConte Lodge is Myrtle Point, for sunrise, but that will be an image for another day.

Using the P and X keys are just the beginning.  There's one more key to kick up your culling speed.  Do you know about the Caps Lock key?

Lincoln

This shot of Lincoln was taken on August 1, 2013.

On July 26th, 2013, the Lincoln Memorial was vandalized by a woman who threw green paint at the base of the 120 ton statue.  This is the first time the statue had been vandalized since it's dedication 92 years ago, in 1922.

At the time this image was taken, the paint was still vizable and the base of the statue was surrounded by scaffolding, causing a bit of an issue in composing shots of the statue and the rest of the memorial.  It was kind of an eye-sore.

You says you can't get a Sunrise shot from within Cade's Cove?

Since Cades Cove does not open to the public until Sunrise, and closes at Sunset, it is sometimes difficult to capture a good sunrise shot from within the Cove.  However, last weekend, +Jerry Denham  and I arrived at the gate just 5 minutes before they opened, and went directly to Sparks Lane.  We were greated by a large mob of photographers that were there participating in a workshop being put on by another photographer.

Since space was so limited, I decided to point my lens to the east and the sun was just coming up over the mountains.  The clouds were very dramatic and help to create a very interesting sunrise from inside Cade's Cove.
