Well, I guess as a response to the "let's all live in the trees" movement, he has a point.
There isn't anything wrong with using energy or changing local environmental conditions to suit our needs. What's wrong is causing changes on a global scale without regard for the natural world : i.e. causing mass extinctions through climate change, habitat loss, and pollution.
One may love what fossil fuels have done for humanity without loving them themselves. They're unsustainable, and ultimately only a bridge to cleaner, better technologies that will let us thrive without exploiting the natural world.
