The Effects of Invisalign
(http://ow.ly/vDft30lSpSF)

Invisalign is a teeth straightening treatment that uses clear aligners. Most patients see a subtle change in their teeth around the first month of wearing the aligners. Depending on how crooked your teeth are, it could take 9 to 15 months to reach your optimal smile. You should leave your Invisalign aligners in, however, for at least 20 to 22 hours per day. If you take out your aligners for extended periods of time, your overall treatment plan could take longer.

5 Advantages of Veneers
(http://ow.ly/C6t130lSpSB)

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain that is cemented to the surface of your tooth. Veneers can improve the tooth’s appearance when the tooth is chipped, crooked, damaged, or stained. Veneers can be an alternative to braces and other orthodontic treatments. They can improve your smile in just two visits to the dentist, look natural, and resist stains. Veneers also improve the aesthetics of your smile without excessive dental work, may cost less than other dental procedures, are fit to your teeth for comfort, help strengthen your teeth, and are easily accepted by your gum tissue.

Am I a Candidate for Teeth Whitening?

If you are itching to remove stains and discolorations from your teeth, ensure you are a candidate for teeth whitening before continuing with this procedure. Those who have healthy teeth, healthy gums, and unrestored teeth (or those with no fillings) could greatly benefit from teeth whitening. People with yellow tones to their teeth respond best to teeth whitening. There are some circumstances, however, where teeth whitening is not recommended or would not be successful, such as children under 16 or pregnant women should not bleach their teeth. Those with tooth sensitivities or allergies to bleaching products should not use a tooth whitening system. Patients with dental restorations (such as fillings, crowns, and bridges) should not use a whitening agent on the teeth that contain restorations, as they are made of a material that does not whiten.

How to Prevent Teeth Staining
(http://ow.ly/BKjC30lSpSu)

Teeth staining occurs when stains affect only the tooth enamel, or are “extrinsic”. This discoloration can be caused by a variety of foods and drinks. For example, black tea or coffee, wine and darkly colored foods (i.e. chocolate or beets) are known to stain teeth. Other foods include pickles, candies, and popsicles. In addition, soy sauce, curries, smoking, or using other tobacco can yellow teeth over time. To prevent staining, drink tea or coffee with a little milk. Drink other liquids, such as soda, fruit juices, or iced coffee, through a straw whenever possible. Brush and floss at least twice a day. Cutting down on acidic foods, or those known to cause staining, can reduce discoloration. Chewing sugarless gum can help neutralize acids in the mouth as will high-fiber foods.

A Timeline of Getting (and Losing) Baby Teeth
(http://ow.ly/WzMk30lSpSs)

Children start developing their baby teeth while in the womb. Accurate nutrition during pregnancy is vital to ensure proper development of the teeth. In the fetus, around 6 weeks of age, a baby starts to form the basic substance of which the tooth is comprised. Around 3 to 4 months of gestation, the baby starts to form the hard tissue that surrounds the teeth. After the child is born, the tooth begins to actually protrude through the gum. On average, most of a child’s baby teeth come in between 4 and 12 months-old. Around the age of 6, a child starts to lose baby teeth. A child will lose 20 primary baby teeth, and will gain a total of 32 adult, or permanent, teeth.

What is a Crown?

A crown for your tooth can help make your tooth stronger, improve its appearance, or restore it to its normal shape and size. A crown comes in many different sizes and materials. It can repair a broken tooth, cover a tooth, or protect a weak tooth from breaking. Crowns can also be used to cover or treat discolored teeth. It can also cover a dental implant that is misshapen or discolored. You will need to make an appointment with your dentist if you believe you need a crown.
