Attendees shared ‘unexpected smiles’ with small tokens of belonging at Airbnb Open.

Toward the end of Friday morning’s welcome session at the Airbnb Open 2014, Chip Conley—the company’s head of global hospitality and strategy—returned to the stage and asked hosts to look under their chairs. There, they would find a “Random Acts of Hospitality” booklet, created just for the event. The business card-sized volume is filled with …

Earlier today, Gina Neff, an associate professor of communication at the University of Washington and the School of Public Policy at Central European University in Budapest, noticed something missing from Uber’s Data Blog.

We have news -- we’re excited to be joining Google[x], Google’s moonshot factory. We will continue to sell our Liftware system, and Google will enable us to reach even more people living with Parkinson’s or essential tremor who could benefit from using tremor-canceling devices every day.

The latest craze in the startup world? Booze.
Booze apps are starting to get some buzz. Will there be a regulatory hangover though?

I was walking home from a birthday party when I glanced into this hole-in-the-wall and stopped to see what the fuss was all about. At 11pm on a Saturday night, it was packed. A man walking out overheard me ask my fiancé "What is this?" and his answer was "fantastic Indian/Pakistani food -- trust me". So in we went. Much to our delight, there were men preparing dough for fresh naan, and the tandoori chicken coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. We decided to snack on some baingan bhujia (eggplant), raita and aloo paratha bread. You can pour yourself some Kashmiri chai, so we did. Everything was fresh and authentic, and the staff were very polite. The bill came to $9.71 -- a super deal. If you don't mind a barebones atmosphere with great Indian/Pakistani food at a yesteryear price, then give this place a try.

Caffè Macaroni oozes charm and authenticity. The waiters were fun and friendly, and I had a blast practicing my Italian with them. We ordered 5 dishes and split them: panzanella (bread) salad, calamari with beans, seafood with squid ink linguine, cod with peppers and potatoes, and a delicious rum cake for dessert. Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious -- even the coffee. The digestif on the house was a sweet way to end the evening. Thanks to Mario and his wonderful team, Caffè Macaroni has become a San Francisco favorite. Grazie!

Best tacos this side of the border. We had salmon, skirt steak and chicken tacos and all were equally fresh and delicious. The cocktails were uniquely exotic as well. We'll definitely be back!

I ordered delivery from this place on GrubHub not realizing that the place was kinda famous and wasn't really Chinese. But that's OK, since it gave me an unbiased taste of the dishes we tried. Here's what we ordered: Smashed cucumbers in garlic sauce: we loved this - spicy and crunchy! Tiger salad: totally weird - menu didn't explain that this was more like a spring roll with salad greens and herbs inside. It was OK. Sour chili chicken: this was my favorite - spicy and the potatoes were a nice addition. Chicken was a little dry, however. Spicy beef chow mein: spicy and very flavorful but the quality of the beef was average. Agree with the other reviewers that you could get this for half the price elsewhere and it would taste about the same. Our order took 2 hours to arrive and GrubHub graciously gave us some credit for the delay. All things considered, I liken the cuisine here to a stoned American cook's spicy Chinese concoctions after a long night at work. Try it!

Nice place to enjoy a great glass of wine in SOMA at a reasonable price. The wait staff seemed nervous and a little on the cold side. The spicy fries we had as a snack were great. The pizza was average.
