I give Doug a shout out and have contributed in the past.   Great conversation about cancer and you're right regardless of the details it's an issue that is difficult to raise in many situations.   Companies, especially those that are not in the medical profession, seem to avoid the topic.   That's why I give props to Verizon for seeing the benefit in sharing a story of how a serious cancer diagnosis up-ended the routine of a Minnesota farm family. http://bit.ly/faithlives

It was supposed to be a story about using Verizon technology in farming.  When the subject of that original story faced a life and death crisis a couple of weeks before the original interview we put the story on hold.

We remained in contact with the family and their positive progress that defied the odds.  The next year that story changed significantly, and technology played a role in meeting the daily challenges of farming and their medical challenges of staying alive.    As the producer of this story I first wanted to honor the family's wishes about what was important to them, what this ordeal did to and for their family and how it effected their outlook on life.

It also included the topic of faith.  Imagine that faith and cancer in the same story that was given exposure by a company that was not involved directly in either.   What they did see was how one of their customers faces life, good or bad, routine or crisis.   Good for them and good for this farm family for sharing this serious time in their lives which can be a source of comfort for others in the same situation.

What an inspiration to produce, shoot and edit this piece with a farm family beating the challenges of Leukemia and still running the farm without missing a beat.

Funny thing is with the creative process, time doesn't matter. Sometimes it comes quickly, sometimes it can be agonizingly long, but the creative type wants to get it right. I know, not good business, but leads to satisfying time well spent. Here's an example, a simple little way to edit a new product story.
