Seven things [apply] to a fool, and seven to a wise person. A wise person does not speak in front of someone who is greater than him in wisdom, and he does not interrupt his fellow, and he does not hurry to answer; he asks on topic, and he answers according to the law. He talks about the first thing first, and the last thing last. About what he has never heard he says, "I never heard," and he admits to the truth. And the opposite of these [is true] for the fool.   Pirkei Avot 5:7

This is the story of how a boy who was a “nobody” in man's eyes discovered that he was a “somebody” in his Father's eyes. The importance of this story is that it can be your story.

This is the story of how a boy who was a “nobody” in man's eyes discovered that he was a “somebody” in his Father's eyes.  The importance of this story is that it can be your story. We often make the mistake of measuring ourselves by outward things like our abilities and actions and popularity. This is the story of how God sees our heart and how we move His heart. It is the story of how God uses and even enjoys weak and broken people...

What is it about harm, destruction, and a fall that is so compelling for people?
I think the answer is found in the basic conflict we all find ourselves in as mortals. Bad reports are part and parcel of the disruptive world we live in. We actually convince ourselves that there is something right and noble about sharing or receiving a bad report. The truth is that a bad report is one of the most destructive things we personally experience.
What is it about harm, destruction, and a fall that is so compelling for people? There is something mesmerizing and compelling about something that is going wrong. It seems to have the power of lust and temptation. Whether it is the train wreck or a house burning to the ground, it has our attention. Our eyes want to take it all in. However, most of us have no sense of a bad report being a kind of lust or a temptation. We actually conv...

  • Passion for Truth Ministries
    Missionary, 2013 - present
One of the main goals of Passion For Truth Ministries is to provide in-depth teaching material to those who are seeking to grow deeper in their walk with Him. If our focus is on applying the Word to our lives today, many times we miss the true meaning of the scripture, and misapply it to our lives as well. Focusing on understanding the Hebraic background of the Old Testament and comprehending the Jewish framework and mindset of the authors of the New Testament forces us to get rid of our biases and accept the plain meaning of the text from the authors’ point of view.
