It's hard to keep up with all of the social networking sites. I'm here in Saskatoon, enjoying #SKITsummit2015.

My recently deceased mother in law's sony taperecorder TC-200, probably mid 1960's. It's not worth much I couldn't discard it without giving it a try. There seems to be a broken connection in one jack for the first channel speaker, but both stereo channels are working. It plays and records still. You have to respect the technology I guess.

That is a cool vintage piece! For the sake of the future audiophiles you have in your classroom, you must show them how it works, and then challenge them to turn a recording into a high quality digital file!

This illustrates why I prefer to have students work with cloud-based applications like Drive. As I've mentioned before, I have a classroom Gmail account and shared Drive folder. It is occasionally problematic.

Why I believe that having the right Google Drive workflow represents a structural innovation in the teaching of writing.

I agree Alan, all the time discovering what you can do with Google Drive is worth every effort for student learning.

Technology club seems to be divided between building webpages and playing Minecraft. Here to girls are teaching friends how to build a page.

Those of you who are not get involved in our weekly chat should consider joining and follow the link below and share your thoughts.

So the blogging challenge is underway. After spending my day running around with boys, I now can take a moment to post the topic for this week. But before I do, just a reminder that if you're interested, please sign up on the document so people can check out your blog - I'm still working on a way to get all the blogs in feedly! Beginning next Friday, the first person on the list will select a topic and post it here for everyone and tweet it out once it's posted.
Okay, now to the topic. This past year has been full of change in so many ways. Today, as I was driving around dropping off boys and trying to stay organized, I wonder how others stay and keep organized. I thought this would be a great way to start this challenge!

The topic for this week is Organization/Productivity - tools you use. Share how you stay organized and the tools you use to manage your time and focus on being productive.

School broadcasts are probably fairly common across our province. Does your school have one?

These are great. Have seen them from other schools, including K-5, but never any early primary podcasts or video casts. I'm trying to think of the best way to get my kids ready for this, beginning in the PreK years. Thinking that it would look something similar to early language arts, where students plan using sentence frames, creating images ahead, or by responding to predictable question types. Want to work out how to share a broadcast - thinking as part of morning circle.

"Introducing merit-based pay for extra hours and exceptional work, as well as allowing teachers more flexibility and creativity within the curriculum, and cutting back on work that is not teaching-related would do much to reduce teacher burnout, says Bradley."

Put this way, pay for extra curricular hours of additional supervision makes sense. My district provides that, though the return is inconsequential. I supervise 18 hours of lunch, covering six classrooms, about 150 students, and earn a day off... Which I have to prepare for. Most people think of merit pay as measured by test score results. I cannot accept that. Too many factors outside of a classroom teacher's control affect progress. How about a bonus above grid for each designated student in a teacher's classroom?

I'm looking for a few grade four or five classrooms to connect with mine in an Edmodo group. I'm in Canada and we are linked with the USA (and Australia in the right season). Some global connections would be great.

Hello Friends and Colleagues,

Please register and review and begin the How Big is Earth project in the iCollaboratory on or after Feb. 15. The project officially begins March 1 and covers lots of information. If you start early your students will learn lots more. The dates you need to remember are Feb. 15, March 1, and March 20, 21, and 22. All angle measurements are due by March 23. Raw measurements should be taken on March 20, 21 or 22. If those days are cloudy or your students are on vacation, please use Activity 7a or 7b to collect the correct measurements and post them early.

How Big is Earth is for classroom students ages 10-15 years.
The project is based in the iCollaboratory (a Moodle and Google Apps for Education private domain)
