Hi Alan Ruttenberg,

You recently wrote a recommendation for The Data Incubator. We were very impressed by the caliber of applicants you know. Our application is currently live. I would be extremely grateful if you could forward this opportunity onto masters and PhDs whom you think would make good applicants.

Program: The Data Incubator is an intensive 7 week fellowship that prepares masters, PhDs, and postdocs in STEM + social science fields seeking industry careers as data scientists. The program is free for fellows and supported by sponsorships from dozens of employers across multiple industries. In response to the overwhelming interest in our earlier sessions, we will be holding another fellowship.

Locations: There will be both an in-person (in NYC, DC, SF) and online section of the fellowship. There is a common application for both the online and in-person sections.

Dates: All sections will be from 2015-09-08 to 2015-10-16

Application Link: http://www.thedataincubator.com/#apply?ref=wYWxhbnJ1dHRlbmJlcmdAZ21haWwuY29t

Who should apply?: Anyone within one year of graduating from a masters or PhD program or who has already obtained a masters or PhD is welcome to apply. Applications from international students are welcome. Everyone else is encouraged to sign-up for a future session.

For additional information, checkout our blog, Venture Beat article, or Harvard Business Review piece.

Sincerely,
Michael

Love the graphic!

Voice of the master

The link is to Donald Knuth's "The TEX tuneup of 2014"

Bonus: Find the mention of wabi-sabi and read the wikipedia article if you don't already know what that that means (I didn't)

I am awestruck by this story, "Torture Radio". The only concept that I can relate it to is the Christian idea of saint.

I haven't seen this film mentioned much, but I enjoyed watching it, so I figured I'd share. I'd classify it somewhere between Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Waking Life.
Ezra Glinter on the vision of the future in Lem's fiction and his commentary on culture and technology.

UPDATE: LinkedIn customer support helped me. See comments for details.

LinkedIn LOSE. Randomly they offer to reconnect to some people - don't know how they got my address list. I check off 5 people and they send out 1100!!! invitations (sorry people). Their instruction for fixing this is to open the invitations 1 BY 1 and undo the invite IF the person hasn't already responded. It's been 5 minutes and I already have Here's what happens when you fill out the survey they asked ME to spend time on to give them feedback on their site:

Dear Apple.

I am a unix developer and have items installed in to-be SIP protected directories. I do not want to have to go fishing around trying to put them back after the installer moves them around,  after I disable SIP.

It's very rude to make this impossible, or to make it difficult to find out whether it is possible.

It's MY machine!
