I'm so thrilled this is actually a thing. Here's looking forward to many more episodes!

The first episode of our new video series is here! Tip Tester - where we test common life hacks to see if they're all they're cracked up to be.

First up, can you open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew? Check it out here, or read more here: http://lifehacker.com/tip-tester-can-you-open-a-bottle-of-wine-without-a-cor-1756636043

For the alcohol-inclined among you, I have to share this - a week ago I made this and set it aside to steep, and today I finally had some. It's amazing, not too sweet, and drinks great straight. Super simple--if you can resist the bottle on the counter for a whole week. Seriously - make this.

 +Alton Brown strikes again!
A potent potable in honor of the 40th anniversary of Jaws. If I have to explain, well, then you've got some movie to watch, eh Chief?

Standing desk aficionados rejoice! Our complete guide to standing desks - or desks that let you stand when you want and sit when you want too - is here:

Want to stand? Sit? Both? There are options here for everyone:
Standing desks are popular, but choosing a good one is no easy task. You could go with a motorized, whole desk replacement, or DIY a simple solution. You could even buy an adjustable attachment to go on top of your existing desk. Let's talk about what you may need in a standing desk, what you can get for your budget, and how to choose what's best for your needs.

It's been too long, but I saw this and knew I had to share it with you all. A beautiful, HD video time-lapse from the International Space Station. Full-screen on the biggest display you have, click play, and have happy, safe holidays, all of you.

If you haven't heard the news, Opportunity, the Mars rover that could, just racked up over 25 miles of driving on Mars--the longest distance any rover has traveled on another planet! Kind of fitting this happens on +NASA's 56th birthday, and considering Oppy was only supposed to run for less than a year--and here it is 10 years later still motoring away, doing good science.

Check out it's jaunt in this photo. This page at NASA has a fun little graphic too: http://www.nasa.gov/press/2014/july/nasa-s-long-lived-mars-opportunity-rover-sets-off-world-driving-record/index.html#.U9eG34BdUp9

This breaks my heart.

I feel really bad for this kid. This was basically me growing up, into electronics and computers, and I feel lucky I never had to deal with a situation like this. I wish I knew him personally to introduce him to my own Makerspace. A place where he would feel welcome and able to build and engineer anything he wanted without feeling self-conscious about what others would think. What a bummer.
MacArthur High student Ahmed Mohamed has been suspended, his father is upset and some suspect Islamophobia.

Exactly, at any point did anyone go to the original teacher and ask him about it? It's not innocent until proven guilty anymore. The school could have easily called his parents instead of the police. If they were so concerned about it being a bomb there's no mention of a bomb squad being called out or the school evacuated.

It's been a while since I shared directly here (too long!) but I couldn't help but share this, especially for my local friends who play.

After getting into the game, I can say +Ingress has had a huge impact on me, so I took a little time to write about it:
Getting out of the house and meeting new people is hard. For a long time, I let inertia limit me to the same neighborhood and daily routine—until I started playing a mobile, augmented-reality game from Google called Ingress. In just a few months, I’ve explored places I’d never seen before, met tons of new and interesting people, and walked hundreds of cumulative miles—all because of a simple video game on my phone.

Sat down with some forensics and security folks to suss this one out over at +Lifehacker today. Sure, we all know they're important, but how important are they to regular people? That was what we set out to answer.

We sat down with security and forensics experts to separate fact from fiction on Shellshock and Heartbleed:
Dear Lifehacker, So Shellshock is the newest vulnerability that may "break the internet." The last time they said that, it was about Heartbleed, and there was probably something before that. Do I really need to be worried about all these bugs and vulnerabilities, or is this stuff tech companies need to care about? Can someone actually use these against me?

This is one of the best things I've seen on the internet in a while - +NASA gets Peter Cullen, aka the ever-familiar voice of Optimus Prime, to tell us all about the James Webb Space Telescope - the next generation orbital telescope that scientists and space fans alike have been eager for for years:
