1279 : Cool Halifax
COOLING TOWERS, HALIFAX (c. 1969) : Two enormous cooling towers set in a valley where the wind blows all the way from the Russian steppes. Who or what could possibly need cooling in these parts?

1278 : The Finality Of A Count Of Ten
POSTERS, HALIFAX, LATE 1960s : Sometimes photographs don't capture beauty but stop time with the efficiency of a sledge hammer on a wristwatch. I couldn't help but check on where the wrestlers are now - all gone with the finality of a count of ten.

I am surprised cows ever get up off there fat backsides in these parts if this is the case. Mind you the same could be said about me and all too often I will look out of the window, based that it is cold and wet and return to the chair in front of the fire.

Sepia Saturday 271 : The Bitter Draught Of Progress
This week our Sepia Saturday theme image features a group of horses gathered around a stream and enjoying a refreshing drink after the toil of a working day. So many possibilities here for the creative Sepian - horses, streams, work - to mention just a few,...

Contiguous Images Of A Busy Little Week
Life has been up to its old tricks again - getting in the way of blogging. Monday was shopping in Leeds (although I was allowed to abandon the GLW in the new Trinity Centre and wander off on my own taking photographs). I spent a large chunk of Tuesday at th...

Sepia Saturday 272 : 28 March 2015
We seem to be on a transport thing at the moment. There were horses last week, tractors this week and bikes next week. But just a little imagination can turn a drinking horse into a pub, a tractor into a potato, and a bicycle into a pair of pretty women. Ou...

1276 : Reduced Salterhebble
SALTERHEBBLE, HALIFAX (1960s) : Park Drive cigs, working mills and Thwaites beer: historical markers planted in a changed landscape. Less dark now. More sanitised. Reduced Salterhebble.

1275 : High Rise Flats And Fizzy Kegs
LOOKING TOWARDS HALIFAX FROM OLD LANE : The 1970s were a time of transition, when mill chimneys were being replaced by high-rise apartments and old beer bottles by fizzy kegs.

IMPERIAL WORKS, SHEFFIELD : All empires eventually fade and fall. Even empires built on saw blades, hoes and spade lugs. Rusted into history.

1273 : Flashy Reds And Bumptious Greens
BRADLEY ROAD, FIXBY   The description "black and white" always seems to be underselling the medium. There is grey, of course, but there is also line and shape. And you seem to notice these two far more when your eye is not distracted by all those flashy rea...
