I wonder; will the international space ship(ISS Antares) Ever configure an ejection burn to take it out of orbit, sending it on its maiden voyage into a martian orbit? I mean the Russians have 500 days in a experimental enclosed environment, though devoid of the low to no gravity of space. We have the ISS in orbit since 1998? How prepared do they need to be?
I think Mars would be too much of a stretch for the ISS, but some folks have been talking about sending it moonward someday...
