Jasmine Walls, a brown belt in Martial Arts, visited the Teen Program and talked about Self-Defense in everyday life last week. She spoke about the importance of setting healthy boundaries and feeling empowered. Jasmine focused on being aware of one's surroundings by putting away the cell phone and headset and staying alert. Jasmine also taught our kids a couple of good self- defense moves. It was a fun afternoon of saying "NO!!!" for the right reasons and keeping safe. Thanks, Jasmine!

Staff and Board members were impressed and energized at the Boys & Girls Club of America National Conference in San Francisco recently. The General Sessions were packed with inspiring success stories from Youths of the Year and terrific and informative Keynote speakers. We were enthralled by the touching stories from former Club members like Bill Russell, Tony La Russa, Nick Cannon, Victor Cruz, and Senator Judith Zaffirini to name a few of the alumni that were inducted into the BGCA Hall of Fame. We were also honored to receive a GOLD MAC Award for our interactive, online-marketing achievements.

Check out our brand-spanking new iMACS loaded with the latest Apple and Adobe software. Now our Technology Club kids will have the ability to edit photos and create videos with music. Teens have the tools to develop a digital “Teen Magazine.” Thanks to our Board of Directors for this tremendous contribution to our technology and digital arts program and to our new volunteer and Digital Photo and Video Instructor, Philip Kaake, pictured here teaching his first class.

Fitness is a critical component of developing the "whole child." We keep our younger members physically active at least 60 minutes every day. They love playing Popcorn with our old faithful parachute. These low impact activities also promote positive social interaction and teamwork.

A big thanks to our amazing sponsors, donors, attendees, volunteers, and Committee for making our 29th Annual Dinner and Auction, Celebrate Great Futures with Mardi Gras one of our most successful galas ever. We are gratified and overwhelmed by your generosity. You truly "let the good times roll" for our kids! Our net proceeds were over $130,000!

Thanks to Al Wright of Raintree Studios, we have some wonderful photos. The Boys & Girls Club of Reno spent the night at our Club as part of their Bay Area College Tour. These kids are on their way to visit University of California, Davis after a spending the day before enjoying many San Francisco attractions. We love when youth from other Clubs around the country stay with us and share their stories.

Did you know board and recreational games help kids develop strategic and analytical thinking, positive interactive skills, and healthy competition through tournament play? Our Social Recreation Coordinator Manny Cruz does. He is busy creating new ways to get kids involved. His new billiards game, Baseball Pool, is a hit. Club kids can pick their favorite MLB team and have the chance to compete in our league every afternoon. The top eight will advance to our championship round and the winner be recognized with a wall photo and certificate.
