I am sincerely honoured (and taken aback) that the Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada named me to receive its 2018 Parliament Hill Award, for services to inter-cultural understanding and human rights. I know I am not in the same rank as the prime ministers and international jurists who previously received this distinction; as CEO of GOPAC, I serve better men and women than myself, and it was my privilege to accept the accolade on their behalf 🍁 https://maharaj.ca/apmc2018

My dog Jumblie and my horse Bello were born within twelve hours of one another, and recently celebrated their birthdays. They have grown up together, but have certainly not grown out of their shared impulse for determined mischief and gleeful havoc 🎂 https://maharaj.ca/2O0byS6

The annual Oxford Alumni Ottawa Garden Party will return to Earnscliffe, home to Canada's first Prime Minister and now residence of the UK High Commissioner, on 18 July. We are grateful to Susan le Jeune d’Allegeershecque for opening her beautiful gardens to us; their spaciousness enables us to welcome other British universities’ alumni and friends 🇨🇦🇬🇧 https://maharaj.ca/2MToPdS

I am enormously impressed by the work of my colleagues at the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, in collaborating with First Nations, Inuit, and Métis institutions, to create the Indigenous Peoples Atlas of Canada. The Atlas is a landmark achievement in advancing public and scholarly understanding of Canada's deep identity: it charts the territories of our country's Indigenous peoples, from before colonisation to the present day. I found the launch ceremony genuinely moving 🍁 https://indigenouspeoplesatlasofcanada.ca/

I had a whirlwind visit to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, to support the creation of an inter-parliamentary Alliance for good governance in sport. GOPAC was honoured to be invited to address European legislators, athlete representatives, and sport bodies. Citizens deserve democratic oversight of the billions in public funds invested into the sport system, and athlete deserve legal protection of their human rights 🇪🇺 https://maharaj.ca/2KnKeze

I was very honoured to be a guest of the Algonquin Nation and Citizenship Canada, to witness their ceremony inducting our country's newest citizens.

It was a moving experience, held under the watchful eye of Parliament Hill: it blended Canadian constitutional practice, Canadian Indigenous spirituality, and a celebration of the pluralism at the heart of the Canadian identity.

When he was in Parliament, Stockwell Day and I repeatedly crossed swords on the Michael Coren Show, over whether Canada should recognise same-sex marriage. Time has mellowed neither of us, and each of us remains utterly convinced of the justice of his beliefs. Nevertheless, it was genuinely lovely to catch up with him in Ottawa 🇨🇦 https://maharaj.ca/2sYgyO2

I enjoyed meeting with Eva-Ricarda Willems and Lydia Sasnovskis, respectively the heads of the Culture and Political sections at Germany's embassy. We discussed employing interfaith dialogue in conflict resolution, increasing transparency in parliamentary lobbying, and combatting corruption in international sport 🇩🇪 https://maharaj.ca/2JiIJ3M

Horse Sport Magazine is celebrating fifty years as Canada's equestrian sport magazine, and I am flattered that they included my address at the University of Guelph in their #HorseSport50th Anniversary Edition. Over the past half-century, equestrianism has become a major industry in Canada's economy, and Canada has become a power in the equestrian world. We are now at a moment of decision: either we will grow together, or we will diminish apart 🍁 https://maharaj.ca/2J8nGkB

A wiretap by German police captured a conversation between two European tycoons, discussing multi-million dollar bribes to an Antiguan Cabinet Minister, kickbacks to the Prime Minister's party, and a web of conspiracies. I joined Kieron Murdoch's "Big Issues" on Observer Radio, along with fellow panellists Dwyer Astaphan and Alex Bruno, to debate how the people of Antigua and Barbuda should respond 📻 https://maharaj.ca/2rVlSBl
